Lucas Paqueta’s entire football career hangs by a thread due to a dangerous legal technicality! The FA hearing will judge him based on the ‘balance of probability’ – a shocking standard that doesn’t require proof beyond reasonable doubt. A senior West Ham source has said, “It’s very hard to be banned for life and lose a career based on a balance of probability.”

Despite no criminal charges in Brazil, Paqueta faces the possibility of a life ban under FA rules. Should the FA be allowed to end a career on a 51% probability test? Should the law be changed to a higher standard?

āš–ļø Is this fair or career-ending injustice?

  1. Needless to say we wouldn't be renewing our sponsorship with Betway even if the new sponsorship rules prohibit front of shirt gambling sponsors. Horrible situation for all involved :/

  2. What`s emblazoned on his shirt ? A Cheating, manipulative mega betting corp advert. I cant imagine his `criminal` activity isnt what happens on their books every bleedin day

  3. Perhaps I'm naive but a few yellow cards taking away a career seems harsh. Wouldn't a 2 or 3 year ban be punishment enough?

It's funny people say the FA have no power left in the game but they can completely take a players career away from them.

  4. Apparently ExWHUEmployee said the club are more optimistic because the Brazilian police have investigated and have not charged him with anything, and a criminal investigation is more thorough? Sounds like people within the club are spinning it both ways?

  5. An article I was reading last week claims that the FA have definitive evidence of the facts against him.😳 how true the news article is we will find out I guess. Dam shame that the FA are dragging their feet deliberately over this one if they do have evidence, leaving us nothing but to speculate & conjecture.

  6. I am sure that as this has dragged on so long the club have a -plan a,b and c around this……..but as you say a legal minefield……easy if innocent as will just play on…..but if guilty could be all kinds of appeals to different bodies etc particularly as you say balance of probability is more opinion based …….whatever I have a feeling this will drag on a lot longer than just the hearing…………not surprising if goes into next season with appeals etc …..even if you go back to the bookings…. Are they bookings??? or subjective opinions of the refs concerned etc…..

  7. If the bloke has been seeking out Yellow Cards for whatever reason and therefore hamper WH's prospects, influence our tactics and team selection, and generally screw up our chances of success in any given game, I want him banged up, never mind suspended. If anyone reading this run a business and had an employee dipping into the till would you not want them found out? If you come up with an answer like "it depends. blah blah" then you obviously have an attitude that suggests you would never run a successful business.

  8. Balance of probabilities is as you say far easier to prove and that suits the ā€œprosecutor ā€œ the FA and if they looking to enforce rules and want to make an example then they have an opportunity……..if looking for evidence as you say, phone transcripts, bank statements,,statements, witnesses etc etc ….this should in theory should be going on for weeks, with challenges, legal challenges etc and how can it also be fair with all the publicity around it

  9. The thing is he wasn’t throwing games so it’s still bad but is it this bad that he might have his career ended ? Especially when you can just get a year ban for kicking a fan or failing a drug test

  10. The problem is, if you put the same burden of proof as a criminal trial then it’s incredibly difficult to ever get a conviction for this therefore there’s no deterrent. By allowing a guilty verdict in probabilities it is a deterrent because everyone knows that if it were criminal there’s no chance you’ll get found guilty

  11. Can't Alvarez just get the FA delegates whacked?

I'm thinking along the line of Better call Saul/ Breaking bad?
On the legal technicality I think watch TED 2.

  12. Would be interesting to see if there were bets placed by his family on opponents he has tried to get sent off with his ridiculous collapsing at the slightest touch…..sorry no sympathy

  13. Hi Gonzo, in the English County Courts you still have to present evidence i.e someone owes you money etc and these are classed as civil. They should really let a court deal with this.

  14. At the end of the day of he was guilty would have been charged already, the fa have nothing and clutching at straws
As for yourself gonzo keep your options and veiws coming mate āš’ļøšŸ‘

  15. You cant prove a negative and Paquetta shouldn’t have to prove innocence. The FA should have to prove guilt but instead we get this kangaroo court where people who may have biases get to decide a man’s destiny.
Remember when that old tosser who supported Spurs found in favour of Sheffield over us? Stitch ups do happen and I’m not just saying this because he’s our player but it’s not right that a man’s career can be decided on ā€œprobabilityā€.
Every match we have to endure VAR delays as they examine offside in forensic detail but a man’s future can be decided with a ā€œprobablyā€.

  16. This has gone on for two years now, surely the FA are clinging onto the hope he admits his guilt?I thought it had been pushed back to the summer,so what suddenly changed Gonzo?

  17. An awful lot of people shooting their mouths off with absolutely zero legal understanding. Including Gonzo. If you're going to make a video about this ffs talk to someone who understands the law first.

  18. The transfer fee would be a hit but in my humble opinion he’s been a big disappointment,he’s been very inconsistent and at times a complete liability,I’d be much more concerned if it was Bowen or Kudus.

  19. Being of a finance background. Any stats being used to prove probable cause would get slung out of court. Stats are always viewed as lies and more damn lies!!

  20. The sums of money make no sense for the risk, I don’t believe he is complicit in this…….however I’d also be glad to see him move on, he’s hot then cold, embarrassing then brilliant, selfish then selfless….we could do with someone far more consistent šŸ°āš’ļøšŸ«§

  21. Every time Paqueta goes for a transfer to City, the FA bring up the charges, and then when City get cold feet they drop the charges.
Someone at the FA is a West Ham fan.
I don’t think it should be a lifetime ban.
But the money should be returned and a ban of at least a year is warranted.

  22. Chocolate bars?
Members of his family put a huge amount of money of him picking up a yellow card and he picks up the ball intentionally at the end of the game.
    What a lucky bet.

  23. The real thing that irks me is the betting companies are the real thieves, and giving a much worse punishment for putting one over the betting companies, than you would get for doping, shows what a grip they have on the the football authorities.
I’d much rather see the betting companies banned, than the players.
Their influence of the game is disgusting, and you knowing they have dirty hands too. But they never get caught or punished.

  24. Gonzo.. you busted me… i took the chocolate bar…. just too good for me mate…guilty as hell.. however.. you can have some of it back in a couple of hours… not sure you would want it though..šŸ’©
