ROMERO HANDBALL VS MAN UNITED: VAR denied man utd a penalty against Tottenham

Fans of Manchester United found themselves split in their opinions after a critical match moment. The incident occurred when Manchester United faced Tottenham Hotspur, and it revolved around a penalty decision. The incident took place 25 minutes into the game when Alejandro Garnacho attempted a shot, only for it to be blocked by the hand of Tottenham Hotspur’s defender, Cristian Romero.

Following this, there was a lengthy and contentious deliberation by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), who reviewed the play. Ultimately, the match referee decided not to award a penalty and allowed the game to continue.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville shared his perspective on the situation during his commentary on Sky Sports. He remarked, “Both of Cristian Romero’s arms were raised, and the key question is whether his right arm was close enough to his body to warrant a penalty.”

Subsequent to this controversial penalty incident, the match gained newfound intensity as both teams had numerous opportunities to score the opening goal.

  1. Of course the distance was close but the defender can not have his hand up there. The shot was right on goal. Otherwise defenders could always just keep their hands on shoulder hight and „block“ shots from close distance, that can‘t be. If he was sliding and his hand was on the ground while sliding and makes a contact then with the ball from close distance then ok. But on that height it is a clear pen!

  2. yeah it is a penalty, but then again Manchester United should not have to rely on a penalty
    they are in disarray
no need to whine over a not given penalty
    and top 4?
right now they are just not good enough

  3. I was watching it live and when the VAR check was being done it clearly didn’t look like penalty but on regular camera it was a clear penalty so I’m thinking maybe it was that reason they didn’t give the penalty.
