  1. No matter how many times I see that clip, I’m always certain that shot goes in. I have no idea how it doesn’t

hyypia being an absolute shit talking legend. love seeing him troll the chelsea players.

Carra would do anything and I mean anything to block a shot at goal. He was old school and did his best to defend his goal.

I’d really like someone to merge the 2nd angle of that shot with smicers goal shooting past baros in the final. Luck in twice buzzing

Remember the itv score logo looking like that back then. The Champions League was so much better being on itv. There’s much more added time now but back then 6 minutes seemed rare. Joked with my dad that José Mourinhno must have bribed the referee.

  6. I was there as a steward behind the goal in the kop. My heart skipped a few beats for sure.

  7. Most nerve wracking game I’ve ever watched. Those ITV nights were some of the best memories of Liverpool I have.

  8. The old away goal rule used to make these Champions League KOs unbearably nervewracking

  9. One unfortunate trade off of our Klopp-era success is Anfield will never sound like this again, not unless we go on another decades-long spell of no PL or CL. The noise was just absolutely deafening that night. Some days I really do miss it, it all just *felt* so much bigger and more meaningful back then, even during the struggles.

I’m not going to turn this into a flimsy defence of Slot because I do believe we need a change in the summer for a variety of reasons, but when I see some of the stuff said about the man on here as we sit as current champions, it’s abundantly clear that a fair few still don’t really *get* what this club is all about.

I remember someone ringing me from the ground after the final whistle it was insane

  11. I was watching this on a proper shit, tiny portable tv at work on the night shift. Yet it was one of the most euphoric moments I’ve ever experienced watching football. That atmosphere was on a different level. And what came next complimented these efforts in the most beautifully, poetic way.

You could literally feel the kop bouncing that night. It was an unbelievable atmosphere and you really felt part of the result. It must have been crap to be a Chelsea player – every touch booed with anger and animosity.

  13. I can still remember that Gudjohnsen chance vividly, I was full sure he was going to score

The shots of Rafa unlocked a lost memory in me. I’ve never seen Rafa so emotional before

  15. Football was incredible during this era. Proper baller players allowed to express, not just systems like nowadays. No bullshit immature social media posts. Saturday football was Saturday football with a great and packed motd line up. Prime commentators. National football full of drama. Football felt like it meant more back then

Even to this day, even though I watched this live on the tele, even after 25 years, I still feel my arse clench every time I see that Gudjohnsen shot. I’m convinced it’s going in and we’re out on away goals. My word.

I watched this to death on the Road to Istanbul DVD when I was a kid. Those ITV European nights just hit different and Clive Tyldesley’s full-time monologue is my favourite bit of football commentary ever.

Chelsea were on a murdering spree at the time and we seemed to draw them every year

  19. Gosh I love watching 240p videos in 2026 with Rafa going bonkers on the sideline. 2005 Istanbul is still the greatest day of my life.
