This moron wants to play out of the back. And it looks like if the World Cup started his guys are Zimmerman, Long, Adams, Turner all who cant pass well. How are we going to get the ball up the field?
This is a MISTAKE! GGG holds a high line against CONCACAF, but try that against England or knockout rounds in the WC we will get crushed! Brooks is needed, badly.
There's an argument to be made that John Brooks could be considered the most talented CB in USMNT history….name one other American CB that has helped lead their team to a Champions League berth in a top 5 league? That alone should count for something. I honestly believe he needs more callups than some of the others being called up-especially with Miles Robinson questionable for November, and having no one in the USMNT pool that matches Brook's talent and pedigree.
However, (Just trying to play Gregg's advocate here) with that being said, Brook's has not played well under Gregg when called up. He had been caught ball watching way too many times, was getting scorched and the culprit of multiple unwarranted goals in WCQ-even against the worst teams (ex watch the honduras -USMNT game highlights). In addition, there might be some negative locker room presence around – but there's really no way the general public or us fans can truly know without any inside information.
National team coaches that have Berhalter’s approach are rarely successful when it’s applied to a national team. It’s so frustrating to see him want to play a certain way regardless of the way we “should” play when our best players are on the field. This approach is rarely successful on an international level.
I might have even pushed one more time with Robinson out and the expansion of the roster to 26 the fans simply don't see 4 center backs better than John Brooks, this isn't Klinsman leaving Donavan off the team in 2014 but it's pretty close…Greg won't say but you just know it's personal and Brooks is out…he is still just rambling and not giving an answer. If your answer is that you really want to play a high line and press ask him if that is really his strategy against England because if it is we have a 4-0 loss to look forward too in the opening round.
We want to play high line? A good coach, coaches his players to fit his system. We are talking of a top player like Brooks. You just can’t dismiss experience like that. Whatever system he is talking about is egregious. How then does Ariola, and other bunch of inconsistent players fit in?
I'm not a Berhalter fan but one thing I am a fan of is him not calling up John Brooks. That guy might be talented but not nearly as much as he thinks he is, and he's too lazy (at least he is when he plays for the US, I don't watch him in Germany)
I'm sorry but the national team coach should not be subjected to this type of questioning from a commentator. And I like Herc. Kudos to GB for his willingness to respond.
The thing is when Brooks was last with the US camp he was really out of form. In poor form for club and national but then he got into form for his club and had a good season. Thru out his good form Gregg never called him in. But we keep calling in Long who came off a serious injury. Its amazing the guys he calls in over starting top CB for the 2nd best league in the world

@herculez you should’ve pressed him how his answer is still inconsistent. His logic should apply to roldan and arriola too
Damn great interview!
I'd bring brooks just for the experience. Him and yedlin are the only ones that were at the 2014 WC.
This was a straight hour of grilling good work herc exactly what we needed
So you don’t want to bring him in and work on it then ? That’s just ridiculous
Gregg is the biggest weakness of this USMNT.. He doesn't have the leadership
We need John Brooks in the camp at least. We can’t play a high line against England or Wales.

Thanks Herc for not asking soft balls.

Thank you Herc.
Need to have John Brooks in the camps. This is the youngest squad in WC and he has crucial experience which is priceless
Thanks!!!!! Herc!!!!! Call him on his BS! 2 reasons?

Better not be like Donovan being out of the World Cup because of klinsmann.

Sounds to me like he found a scenario to fit his outcome…..I just don't think he like Brooks…..
