FIFA put out that report about how teams in leagues in tier one have room to improve and where they can improve, and then you see a game like this. Basically semi professional work at best.

That was abysmal. The pitch, the performance. Horrendous…

Would have some hope with one goal difference at home… but not sure like this.
Real doesn’t even played great, but we were so toothless.

No bueno. I got tickets to that game as well 😬

Let’s hope DVD will recover by the next leg. Manu was being Manu today.

Really, really poor performance, not much else to say. We’re absolutely capable to scoring twice in the return leg but we’ll need a massive improvement compared to how we’ve played in recent weeks.

What are the chances that DvD can play next week?

I hope Renee sees the folly in playing the same backline for months without rotation. Tactical fouls on Fox, letting their player run through midfield and then cut inside – that is just sub par.

Well that was horrid unfortunately

Genuinely, why play Hurtig at all? Why a single minute? Its insane

Not much to be happy about with that match. I guess I’m glad that our team came out of this relatively unscathed injury-wise (that we’re aware of). There were lots of things that we couldn’t control that made this way harder, but I still think it is fair for us to expect better from the squad. Both teams were all playing on the same pitch.
A hill to climb but I’m not giving up. We can still pull through. COYG

I’m very miffed about our defense. So passive!! How many times have we seen the same scenario play out?? Leah and Steph, in particular, do not step to the ball when the fullback peels away to cover the runner. They leave too much time and space and it has cost us goals 😠 Get it together!
Beyond that, we made some nice attacking runs, but either didn’t shoot or made the wrong pass.

How do even analyze a game like this? It felt like so much of the poor performances were tied to how awful the conditions were. One of the worst pitches I’ve ever seen

We’ve put ourselves in a tough spot, but it’s still within reach. If you can’t beat Madrid, then you have no business moving forward anyway.
I just hope we don’t mess things up and can stay in the top 3 in the league. We really need to do some serious business in the summer. It would be a huge help if City loses to Chelsea in their next league match.

Tried to take a shower to wash the memory of this game away and there’s no hot water in my apartment. A real cherry on the top for today.

We can come back stronger. There were many errors, but knowing the girls, they still have what it takes. Let’s stay positive and move forward together. I know this is disappointing, but after watching the match, it’s clear the girls weren’t fully prepared for the pitch or for Real Madrid. However, I believe in their ability to bounce back. My hopes are still high—let’s do this at the Emirates! Let’s go! COYG 💪🔥

UEFA, FIFA and their match officials should be held financially responsible as individuals for the medical outcomes that happen in any game once the referee blows the whistle to start the game at kick off. Any and all serious injuries requiring any off pitch treatments should have their related medical bills paid in full by them. All the ACL recoveries that we have seen take months and all the related recovery costs involved. This is the best stick I can think of to remove these rubbish pitches from being used. If a player is so badly injured a return to playing is not possible they should be awarded a pension at least comparable and matching or above the pensions enjoyed by top level FIFA officials.
sorry pals, i thought id be in a fit enough state to watch the game live but my body betrayed me once again. won’t be making the same mistake for the second leg. the powers of the oracular antipodean are (still) valid

This is the first time I’ve watched a game and gone huh this isn’t good and it’s not getting better. 3 shots on target, they had all the corners and not one goal. Back to learning set pieces I guess. I’m going to be honest there needs to be an overhaul in the summer this just isn’t good enough not in the champions league not if they intend to stay playing at this level. We can only hope for is 2nd place in the wsl even this feels wishful idk just lots of negatives and not much positives.

What changed? It seems like after the last international break, everything has come crashing down. Even the west ham match, while an exciting match, was a near disaster. Anyone have any tactical insight?
Every_Possibility_43 on
Damn, that was tough to take, especially being at the match (and soaking wet). The pitch was dangerous and I’d have been seriously unimpressed as a player, knowing the increased injury risk. From a football perspective, I also think we have got to the stage where our tactics and ways of playing have adapted to be optimal on quality pitches (hopefully proved correct in the next 2 matches at The Emirates). Big 2nd leg incoming and hoping for a big fight from the team for our last chance of silverware!
