Jamie Redknapp suggests lots of managers would have been able to equal Gareth Southgate’s achievement of getting England to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

that's what I said when England lost the final against Italy, he should have resigned then, and what happened again after the WC England failure, he remains again at the head of the English team for the next projects. He is a limited coach, and he has already shown that many times, he does not have the quality to lead such a quality team. England will have another disappointment in the next competition, it's a shame because England has one of the most promising teams in the World, and he will destroy the success of this promising generation.
Anybody else not care what Jamie Redknapp or Jermaine Jenas think? Average players. Below average pundits.
Need to change
anybody would of done at least what he did over the last years
Spot on
Interested to know which 4 teams in the top 10 England have beaten because off the top of my head, the only real powerhouse England have beaten is Germany in the Euros, and even then, they were ranked outside the top 10.
I'm guessing that since Fifa rankings aren't accurate it'll be teams like Denmark, Colombia, Switzerland who most likely were ranked in the top 10 at the time.
Fact is, I can't recall England beating any of the typical powerhouses, especially when it matters… lost to Italy in the Final, Croatia in the Semis, France in the Quarters, and even the Netherlands in the Nations League Semi (and this was coming off from the WC semi and Netherlands weren't even in the WC!!).
People have short memories
There aren't any English managers that are better than Southgate.
Gareth time is up !
Why hand the baton to someone else? Because someone else would be better. His record against the top ten teams is abysmal. And don't give me that 'must be an Englishman' nonsense
3 tournaments are enough chances
Ole Guna Southgate
Should not be naming streets after someone who won 4 lost 3 in world cup
While there is an FA we will win FA!
Finally! I've been saying it for time! This England team is mediocre and been a failure. They are no better than the golden generation.
Well said
"Any PL manager would get England to QFs!"
WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE MANAGERS BEFORE GARETH JAMIE????
Finally a big name questioning Southgate
Gareth Southgate is very poor tactically and is too negative. He also takes too long to make changes/subs.
I am glad Southgate is staying on but he needs to be more braver and go for it (especially if England are losing).
Damn I'm actually agreeing with Jamie Redknapp for once
Even if they manage to beat France i dont think they beat Morroco via Penalty shootout
Southgate's record against:
Belgium L W L L
France L L
Italy D L D D
Spain W L D
Netherlands L W
Denmark W L D
Croatia W W D L
That's 22 games against top 10 opposition and lost 10. Never going to win a major trophy with that record
No one will do a better job than Southgate
I have a feeling that for as long as English pundits and ex-players keep saying that England has “a great chance of winning” something, they will keep on losing. Yes, true, this team has a lot of talented players but there are other teams with lots of talent. Look at France for example. The fact remains that England has never ever made it to a final of a major tournament not hosted on its home soil. Not even a final. Not even once. That’s a remarkable record of consistent failure and futility for a country like England that fancies itself as one of the big football nations. Ever heard of “speak softly and carry a big stick”? Well England is like the opposite of that. Always talking a big game but then choking as soon as they play a formidable opponent. So a little humility will do folks — and the team itself — a lot of good.
He's the best in the world at taking the knee
The only time I've agreed with Rednapp🤣
Coming from Jamie who says spurs was a brilliant team….come on
Why are we saying there is no one out there to take over. No one since 66 has won anything, so why not give someone who is not a big name a chance?
Hahahahahaha England are just rubbish and no matter who manages them they will never win anything 😁😂
Thank you I agree 100%
I simply miss the winner mentality…
Harry should have been given the gig instead of Big Sam
Easy group stages first real game found out again they have no pride or fight in them too much money they don't care !!!!!!
i agree with Jamie 100% Southgate has not got the killer instinct, just mister nice guy!
Saka was Englands best player at the WC and another pundit doesn’t mention him for their best players… Mason Mount was sooo good 😑
If he was too take up a different career , maybe the Church so he can kneel to his hearts content
Wow.. Nice one redknapp 👏
Can speak slot of nonsense and bias but he’s spot on here
Yes most prem leage managers would that's why they are in one of the best leages in the world becuase they are some of the best out of thousands 😅
Like I said before Gareth freezes in his seat when it's time to make those crucial changes he's not got the mental edge you can't keep rewarding failure he needs to go
love all the arm chair pundits thinking we should be beating france
Fair play. Really sensible from Jamie
Lets face it generally European teams were more concerned with forcing political statements down peoples throats than winning matches. Southgate is the yes man woke activist of the century who rather than being hell bent on getting results is more concerned about bending the knee. What a great leader. I'm sure even most England players are fed up with it by now making fools of themselves. Just play football which is what they are lucratavely paid to do, then there can be no excuses.
At last the truth Southgate should have gone
Jamie Redknapp has become really miserable. He was a England regular, what came of it?
well said Jamie 🤪 a lot of media/pundits talk drivel on this subject but you made some good points here .
