So many people dumping on John Herdman. Yes, he should not have cheated, even though most of the Futbol world has cheated in a similar fashion.
(By the way, just to give this some perspective, if any of us outside of sports, had cheated like this in our jobs, we would have been fired in the spot).
The bottom line is that I will always appreciate how he lifted our Canadian women's & men's teams to a completely much higher level. He inspired them & gave them a newfound confidence that just never existed in Canadian soccer before.
Finishing #1 in the men's 2021/2022 quarterfinals & helping Canadians to start having terrific success in Europe, was something that I never thought that I would ever see in my lifetime.
I didn't like the way that he naively insulted Croatia in the World cup, which gave them all of the revenge ammunition to play their best soccer vs Canada. It was a degree of arrogance, which was not typically Canadian at all. Still, I for one, very much appreciate that John Herdman started the Wonderful rise of Canadian soccer & now we are very fortunate to have Jesse Marsch, who picked up John Herdman's mantle & he has taken Canadian soccer to an almost unthinkable level.
Despite this mess & the Croatian error, thank you John Herdman for everything that you have done for Canadian soccer/futbol!!!
have to agree, bobby smyrniotis is the best hire because he fixes the core issues at the club. its complete disconnect of academy and 1st team.

I disagree that droning is cheating. Cheating is breaking the rules. FIFA has no rule that says you can't scout your opponent's practice. PERIOD. Change the rules FIFA if you like, but don't subjectively moralize.
Toronto FC is in its WORST shape ive ever seen. This is why Herdman decided to leave. Period.

Herdman is a fantastic Manager. His man managment is spot on, but unfortunately for him the timing of the Insignifico era did not allow him to shine as he did with our National teams.

We will not be "winner" in 2026 Ben… A "winner"… LOL… Not after this fallout and debacle of a situation that's spiralled to the point of showing what it looks like to be "snaked, betrayed, and bamboozled." Winners don't do this to people like John Herdman. Winners wouldn't do this backstabbing to anyone because they're winners, they don't have to… Toronto FC is far from being a "winner" as an MLS team and a developmental organization… The problem in all of this is that Canadian's did this to John Herdman… Canadian sports media (Rick Westhead and TSN) went after him with knives! Canada Soccer went at John Herdman with vengeance and a desire to strip him of his coknoaching license in Canada, which would have been a bloody disaster for MLSE as the umbrella organization who's been granted a license to print money for the World Cup… John did what he had to do, he knows Bev Priestman's lawyers are going to throw him to the wolves… But I stand with John. I will always stand with John Herdman. Nobody likes rats, snitches, bitches, and snakes in the grass- which is what the Canadian soccer community seems to be comprised of 'at this time.'
