Whenever MU took a manager from other club, the Board always saw the good bits when he was there, not the difficult times it took. So when it happens at MU, it's the mgr's fault. The same will happen with Amorim and the cycle is Neverending Story!!

I have no inside knowledge, but I honestly suspect that INEOS wanted Amorim in the summer, and he wanted to stay at Sporting for another year. INEOS therefore extended ETH contract by a year and bought Ugarte on the basis of Amorim replacing ETH in 2025. Then the results accelerated that process. Would not surprise me at all.
