We signed Ugarte on 30th August 2024. He was our primary midfield target in the summer transfer window. He came in with very high expectations. Has he matched up to those?
Ugarte’s made 6 appearances so far at United, and out of 540 potential minutes, Ugarte only played 258. What makes it worse, out of Ugarte’s 4 Premier League appearances, he only played for 106 minutes. Is it the right decision to bed him in so slowly?

Spin it all you like, when a team like PSG are willing to let him go after 1 season, it should be a red flag. Zaire-Emery, Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha seemingly overtook him in the pecking order pretty quickly. Them replacing him with Joao Neves, is a kick in the nads, too.
Considering ETH wanted Amrabat who is turning 30 next year then INEOS made the right call. I think ETH should take risks and give Urgate minutes in every game even if it is in the 80' to build confidence.
I haven't seen enough of him. It takes some players longer to settle in than others and when we're comparing Mazraoui and Ugarte: 1) Maz is older and more experienced and 2) RB is probably one of the easier positions to play and therefore easier to settle in to. I think he'll be good: let's give him time.
You might wanna mention Richard Keys in next Howson versus Ste. He went on rididiculous about Ugarte especially before the Brentford game
any player who comes into the squad, when they are playing crap, won't make the team better, until the team start blending and gelling together, once that happens, all players get to know what each other can do, and what is expected from each other, that's when the team start playing together better.
It seemed to me that ETH didn't trust Urgarte when his job was on the line. He went with Casemiro and/or Erickson and I can't blame him. ETH will have to manage Casemiro's load and Urgate will get his chance. I will be surprised if he doesn't take it.

If ugarte was brought in to replace casemiro who has now found some form he may not make many appearances. Also is the two central mid fielders fawed and united are much better with Bruno playing deeper and having a 4 3 3 system.

I have no issue with the guy and no issue with how he’s been handled so far. I feel like the majority of South American players struggle to get vested into the PL and add to that the insane state of flux of our club lately. Hope he works out in the future but for now expectations should be somewhat tempered

Hes a limited player. Fred without anywhere near Freds ability. I can see why Luis Enrique wanted rid because he’s not at the level to compete with Europes best due to technical limitations. Bench player at best. Laughable to think fans were slating Casemiro and saying Ugarte will take his place. Imagine that a 5 time CL winner being replaced by a bench player at PSG?
HOWEVER, it’s not entirely his fault becaue like most players, Ten Hag hasn’t used him well and there is no visible sytem in place, he needs to be alongside a deep lying playmaker which is what we actually needed rather than a destroyer because we already have Casemiro and Collyer for that. In reality, I expect him to be a bench player once our midfield is upgraded or sold in the next few years. We needed a profile of Sander Berge or Zubimendi.
Bro, United new and young players are not allowed to mature and adopt to the new club and team mates, new culture, country and new language. Only Man Utd players are supposed to run like a new machine. Players like Anthony the Brazilian y’all forget his age he came at united as 22yrs old from a different league, and y’all expected him because he was bought for 80mil (not his fault that we paid for that) so he should just be able to run and bang goals. We once had Evra, Vidic, Tevez, Ronald and Rooney gone for three seasons without premier league trophy because they were young and developing. Look at UNITED squad Gannacho, Zeerkee, Maino, Anthony, Rasmus, Amad, etc all these are still very young players, I will argue that they need at least 2 more seasons for them to properly mature. Arteta and his arsenal squad been together for 5yrs and what have they won? Oh the answer will be they play a better football than Manutd, that’s it nothing else. Eric ten Hag went the entire last season with all the speculations of Sir Jim and the Arabs buying United, all these injuries like ridiculous amount of players were out, not knowing who your employers will be for certain period of time will affect players, coaches and stuff even though they are professionals but at end of the day they are humans and beat Man City convincingly 2-1 for the FA Cup. Imagine a season without all the drama and injuries and players that have jelly together, United will be unstoppable and most of haters know that and that’s why they enjoy talking shit now… but for me a true fan since 1991 knows what’s up and can’t wait to tell you I told you so. In Eric Ten Hag I believe, let’s go United.
There’s a bit of a Dutch culture at Utd with the squad and coaching staff so probably much easier for Maz, De Ligt, and Zirkzee to bed in.
Yoro also looked comfortable in pre season but Ugarte may be a player that takes a long time to settle.
ETH doesn’t like to throw players in at the deep end unless he has no other option he seems to prefer to introduce them slowly after he has had a little time to work with them. He was slow to introduce Casemiro after he arrived.
Ugarte seemed to have the physical attributes and instinct to snuff out attacks in France so I don’t foresee those being issues when he gets up to speed in England.
Does ETH have the right balance of players for a settled midfield? I don’t think he does, but he has options to vary the midfield depending on opposition.

The world and his wife knew that Ugarte was a ball winner but nothing else. Hence PSG didn't play him. Today's football needs more. Zirkzee also looks poor.
Look at the difference between Gravenberch (sp?) last year compared to this year, night and day. Give the lad time to get his feet under him!
The two Bayern lads have settled OK as German league not that different but Ugarte and Zirkzee may need more time

You do have to factor in the lack of pre season. Thats not really his fault. Hopefully he will come good
Ugarte has a reputation for making decent long balls and breaking up the play but has a tendency to make the odd mistake losing the ball around his own box. I’m surprised he hasn’t played more minutes considering the big investment but that’s ETH for you. I don’t buy he’s an Ineos signing and that’s why he hasn’t played as many minutes as many expected. I think you have highlighted something Ste that many fans are confused about. Uruguayans are generally tough characters and I think he’ll bring some steel that’s really lacking in our team of weaklings.

I’m in the camp of the third choice.. we saw his quality at the end of the brentford game. We need to have a stable midfield whatever that means. I like kobie but I’m not sure he is the long term solution quite yet.. tbh I don’t think we will fundamentally change until Bruno leaves. We need a player like eriksen from 7 years ago in Bruno’s position and then you can have kobie and ugarte with them in a three. Casemiro still has quality moments but we need to move from him as well. Tbh I’m not sure we would still have a dominating midfield with ugarte kobie with Deyong. The epl is so physical not sure yet that ugarte can handle this but he needs games and he should start on Thursday.
It’s harsh to judge Ugarte now after barely 7 games. It wasnt his fault the team was in a bit of a shambles at the start of the season.
He's young mate. He's on a 5 year contract. Needs just a bit of time. ETH recognises this.
Ugarte is a top class defensive midfielder. Currently going thru a slump, personally, and trying to adapt to a new league and a team in disarray. Plus now an injury. Give the lad a few months.
When he came on in the last match he really solidified the midfield and carried the ball very nicely through the entire opposition. He’s getting there.

Agree with most of the comments that we should be giving him time but him and Zirkzee body language doesn’t give much confidence…always hope I’m proven wrong when I doubt the players..
You’re forgetting that he picked up an injury in the internationals so that’s why he was on the bench. And tbh I was surprised he was even on the bench. And the injuries have to be managed and players not overplayed so we don’t have another injury crisis like last season
He ain’t had the time and we ain’t had the full team out there… I don’t wanna dump the weight of United on his shoulders and the high demands and expectations.. we need to give him the confidence and conditions to thrive

Ten Hag took ages to put Casemiro in. Probably because he looked miles off in training. I dont think he looks fully fit. But the type of player shouldn't need a season to "bed in". Personally its too soon to tell but id be lying if i said i wasnt a little bit concerned, like i am with the majority of ETHs signings. A few of whom have had their bedding in period and still dont look up to it.
But he was supposed to make Utd. World conquerors only 3 months ago.
Would like to see an energetic midfield of Bruno, Mount and Ugarte. Would struggle to dominate big teams but would have a great press.
