To add injury to insult, it should be remembered the Canelo very strategically waited until Benavidez was stripped for not making weight against Angulo to fight Callum Smith for the vacated title in the first place. Clearly, Canelo is avoiding Benavidez at all costs whatever his reasons, but the WBC enables this sort of thing, knowing that Benavidez's own promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz essentially owes his start in boxing to Jose Sulaiman and so he's not about to rock the boat on behalf of his fighter with Sulaiman's son at the helm over at the WBC. The WBC should order the fight, period, and whichever fighter refuses it should be stripped, either Benavidez of his so-called interim belt or Canelo of his 168 title. But they won't do that because it is painfully obvious who is holding up this fight and it is not Benavidez. WBC – We Back Canelo – at all costs and who cares about the fans.
