  1. Official Statement Follows:

“We can confirm that Jonas Eidevall has resigned from his position as Head Coach of our women’s first team and leaves us with immediate effect.

Jonas joined Arsenal in June 2021 from FC Rosengard in Sweden, winning two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup titles during three full seasons with us. We also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League – in 2022/23 – for the first time in ten years during Jonas’ tenure in north London.

First Team Assistant Coach Renée Slegers will take charge of the team as our Interim Head Coach.

Sporting Director Edu Gaspar said: “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021.

“We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he showed to our women’s first team and recognise the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women. We all wish him the very best for the future.

“Our focus will now turn to the process of appointing a new Head Coach, and in the meantime, supporting Renée, as she takes interim charge of the team starting with two important fixtures this week.”

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Jonas for his hard work and dedication to Arsenal Football Club over the past three years.

“Jonas has brought us back-to-back trophies in the last two seasons, together with many memorable moments on the pitch.

“We wish Jonas and his family the best of health, happiness and success for the future.

“We have full confidence in Renée to take responsibility for the team in the interim period.”

The search for a new Head Coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete.”

  2. Thank god. We have to back Renée until a new head coach is appointed. The girls have to step up.

  3. Yes! Could argue it’s about 6 months late and cost us our best player, now we really need to nail the replacement.

  4. obviously the football had stagnated, and while i did race out to tell the family about the news, whenever a manager leaves or is sacked, you always get a sense of what if. im hoping we feel a new sense of self within the team. thank you for the cunti cups jonas, and some memorable big wins

  5. Edu being at the chelsea match did it for the lad I feel. Still, he won us two cups when joe conked out with just one. No hard feelings now, wish him the best

  6. Fucking hell, he resigned. I wasnt actually expecting that today. Ill say thankyou for the first 2 years, right time to go tho

Thanks, what a ride that first season. Onwards,  some sort of weight lifted for Wednesday

  8. Not that surprised this happened, annoying it’s come during the season but better late than never. The next move by the club has to be the right one that’s going to take them forward in terms of playing style but also trophy wise

even though i expected it and i think we need a shake up i’m not even gonna celebrate bc some of the stan accounts (mostly on twitter) are dead embarrassing. just so much unnecessary hate and give the fans a bad name. i wish jonas all the best and even though i had my frustrations thank him for the things he did do for the club. ppl be acting like he relegated us or something smh

  10. At least fair from him to resign. We just havent improved anymore under him.

But you Need to question the board too. We lost Viv due to this…

  11. Finally the long awaited news. Good. He had obviously lost the locker room already.

I’m ready to be an excited Arsenal fan again. We have too much talent on this team to underperform and stagnate like we have recently.

Part of one of my favorite moments as an Arsenal fan period, the semifinal with Wolfsburg, fighting tooth and nail to possibly take part in the final with a squad full of crutches, casts, stretchers, and replaced knee parts. Those moments when the players walked around the stadium after a brutal loss, heads bent for the most part, gave me a sense of defiance that will long stay with me. Even if it didn’t quite work out in the end, thanks for the memories.

  13. i’m quite sad this hasn’t worked out. there was a lot i liked about him, and i backed him at the end of last season, but it’s clearly not happening here. maybe it’s just club spin, but i think it speaks to his character that he’s been self-aware enough to resign and not stay on while the situation gets even more bitter.

grateful for the silverware, hopefully we remember that more than these last weeks.

Massive. Thanks Jonas, applied yourself and gave your best, no hard feelings. Just time for change.

  15. It was clear a refresh was needed. Just comparing this Chelsea home game to his first WSL game against Chelsea in 2021 and you can just see the team has been a bit stagnant for a while.
Hopefully this will reenergise the set up. Two trophies, a semi final appearance in UWCL isn’t to be sniffed at by Jonas.

  16. If Renée Slegers is the interim, I fear little will change. I hope for the best, but she must depart from the slow Dutch “long attack” style she favors to likely improve outcomes for this team. It should be obvious to her quite radical changes to the style are needed.

  17. He seems like a fine guy and clearly a good footballing mind based on his interviews and public analysis. I’m grateful for the good memories

Just wasn’t working out. Not sure if he loss the dressing room or he overthought things too much

The club has parted ways with multiple club legends in his time for the sake of progress and playing style and I don’t think we’re better for it

Wishing him the best, but really do feel relieved

  18. Not being funny, if we can’t actually finish our chances – and we do create a lot – even with Jonas gone, it’s not going to be a different story with the next manager.

Hopefully this will mean that players who have strong on pitch relationships will be picked and we won’t be as defensively poor ie susceptible to turnovers. Though god knows why some of them haven’t developed those already after so long.

  19. I only started supporting arsenal after last year’s wc and, despite us having an overall underwhelming season, there’s plenty of memories I am grateful for.

I wish him all the best in the future and I am sad because of all the abuse he got.

That being said, I think this is the right decision. I hope Renee does well and that there is someone competent in that front office who will hire a coach who is good enough to take this club back on top.

  20. Appreciate how quickly this happened. Wasn’t working out for Jonas, hope the team turns it around quickly

  21. There is a nice fruit basket on its way to Jonas’s house, with a lovely handwritten note from Mikel Arteta.

In it is written one word

    “Standards.”
