In this breaking news update, Brazilian football star Lucas Paquetá is facing two additional serious charges from the FA in connection with his alleged betting irregularities. These new charges could lead to a lifetime ban from football. The FA has also accused Paquetá of obstructing the investigation by failing to provide access to his mobile phone, which he claims is now lost. The ongoing case will be reviewed early next year. Stay tuned for all the details surrounding this major development.

  1. If the fa gave the phone back surely thats because they were done with it.
Why would a rich football keep old phone when he has a brand new one.
FA shouldnt have gave the phone back if they werent finished with the investigation

  2. Playing devils advocate. It is possible that Paqueta's uncle did have a loan from The betis player. Needed to repay it and maybe put a bet on in order to repay it and maybe Paqueta did give him a little wink. I cant believe any player let alone a Premier league player who earns 100k a week would risk his entire career for such paltry sums of money to them.

  3. They asked for the phone and he complied by giving it to them. Of course he would have bought a new phone to use while they had it and why wouldn't he assume that have all the info/evidence that they want, surely they took a copy right? He can do whatever he likes with the phone after that, I don't think the FA have any case at all. Any lawyer worth their salt will have this laughed out of court if that is all they have. I am just wondering how much Lucas's lawsuit against will cost them.

  4. Pogba just got a lighter sentence would seem barbaric if they gave him a lifetime ban.
Unless Ive missed something and it was more than yell cards.

  5. Very odd this one. This isn't like some suspicious girlfriend checking up on her man and after scouring his phone asking to have another look a few days later. Surely this was done through opposing legal teams and as such on the return of the phone in question, terms of return would be agreed that would either release the item from further investigation or come with agreement that they could recall said item for future examination. If the former then they can't have any grounds to bring further charges but if the latter then have his legal team been very very stupid – or do they know there's something to hide ? I'm concerned because I would expect an item under suspicion would be left untouched until the case was completed once and for all just in case it could aid any line of defence – unless there is evidence they didn't want to admit to. After all it's not like he would be keen to take it into a CEX store to part/ex it as he was a bit short of cash this month…

  6. 2 things from me:
    1. When they gave him the phone back, did they tell him to keep it as they may need to revisit it?
    2. If they didn't tell him they may need to revisit it, surely it's up to him to do what he wants with his own possessions?
My thoughts are, it's down to what was said or not by the Prem league when they gave the phone back as to whether or not there should be additional charges. No comment from the Sun about this.
    Real shame whatever happens

  7. Gonzo it seems to me to be a palava about nothing

How are the ever going to prove it sure that's that's like somebody sending you a text saying back this how can they ever prove it

They can't they will just keep going I want to define something they've made it a rod for their own back surely if there was something on the phone they would have found it first time round nelda can't look silly they have to keep going till they can say oh yeah who's a fine for XYZ

Alvarez gets booked every game almost the scenic could say why are they not investigating him and a simple answer none of this can be proven

Sure don't you pick yellow cards every week in match bingo we can't do much bingo in Ireland put Paddy Power could say gonzo has a pattern here

The FA or Premier League whoever is trying cannot prove anything because if they would be able to it would have been on the phone first time round Irish JP

  8. Don’t think the FA have anything. All this noise and bluster, I think they are just shaking the tree to see what falls. A good brief should be able to chuck that charge out as they had the phone for ages.

  9. I'm worried that they are trying to manipulate news so that people draw the conclusion that he is guilty and has something to hide. On the face of it, if they gave him the phone back, how can they possibly complain if he has thrown it away? It's nonsense! But all the other bits and pieces as well – what Uncle Bruno might or might not have done for example, is trying to paint a picture of something not right. But where is the hard evidence? If they have really got some, why wait so long before holding a hearing? I wouldn't be surprised if there were more leaks of the "nudge-nudge, wink-wink" to try and make him look bad. But up to now, I've seen nothing that is more than circumstantial evidence, and nothing that directly links Paqueta with the betting. Suspicious coincidences do not prove he did anything wrong.

Personally, I think we should all take the view "innocent until proven guilty" – and see if the FA have got anything real to backup their charges.

  10. Completely unacceptable that the FA hearing is and has taken so long. Would indicate the evidence is not sufficient at this time. I mean, how long is it now since the charges were brought?

  11. Unless he was told he needed to keep the phone pending further investigation.
This can literally hold no weight, they had adequate time to perform their investigation.
Stinks of they didn’t find anything to stick him with.

  12. Tbph, I look forward to a time when we’re rid of Paqueta, whether he be innocent or guilty. We’ve spent the better part of the last 3 years accommodating him, more or less because we’ve had to. Net/net he’s been a liability to the club. He continues to be pretty much the only certain starter every game even though he hasn’t been near his best in two and a half seasons. One way or another he’s going to be gone from West Ham by next June, and knowing that, I kind of wish we’d just stick him in with the kids and set the side without him. It’s coming anyhow. We may as well set the side sooner than later.

  13. I don't see that the FA has any legal right to demand access to his phone. Paqueta should have refused in the first place, and threatened legal action if the FA continued to harass him. If the FA have proof elsewhere, then fine – let's see it. Otherwise, go suck a lemon.

  14. A good lawyer will RIP this case to shreds it's a false accusation which had any substance he would have been dealt with ,same scenario as xhaka when at arsenal 18 months no concrete evidence and this is heading the same way

  15. If it is evidence they should retain it until the case is over. If it is not, then he can do what he wants with his property. I would throw it away myself, not because I am a match fixer, but because one of the experts who handled it could have put spyware on there.

He is a celebrity and has a right to protect his privacy. Nothing to see here. If they try to make a case out of this his lawyers will have a field day.

I was starting to wonder if the club had insurance to cover his transfer value, but if this is how the FA are operating the Paq walks.

  16. If the Fa they had his phone and then returned it. How does he not know that they have done something to it? I'd bin it. And use the new one. It's all rubbish.
