Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus were standout performers for West Ham last season, but under new head coach Julen Lopetegui, both players seem to have lost their spark. With Bowen now captain of the Hammers, many expected him to thrive, but his performances have been underwhelming. Is Lopetegui failing to get the best out of his key players, or is there more going on behind the scenes? In this video, we dive into the challenges facing Bowen, Kudus, and Lopetegui as they try to find their rhythm at The London Stadium. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

My mates in.portugal.know lopetegui from his days with porto, his knickname in portugal was flopetegui. Oh oh doesnt sou d good
Very refreshing to see geo and gonzo call out bowen and that's why hes my favourite westham youtuber…very fair and honest unless they talking about lanzini😂😂😂…im being honest bowen would of been the last player to pick as captain and if hes not careful he will loose hes England place
Ibremember that video ref Loppy at Wolves he dropped them yes ..
Alvarez as single CDM, Paqman and Mo in the middle, Summerville and Bowen on the wings, then he has multiple options for a slow striker up front!
Can't find the free trial on Patreon…
I would be surprised if loppy turns this around! Gone by Christmas but hope I’m wrong
Love Bowen but he’s been pants for the last few games… Can we get some neon lights behind Geo please ⚒️⚒️⚒️
Look, whats happening with Bowen is a natural progression of the Kudus/Bowen problem. Lets first address the fact that given how we played against Chelsea, it didn't matter who we had up top, they wasn't going to get into that game as a lone forward. next issue, our 2 best players are MOST EFFECTIVE on the right wing. Bowen needs to play there and Kudus needs to play there, making Bowen captain was a mistake right now, because you need your captain on the pitch, but we know how good Kudus is and he needs to be on the pitch.
Way I see it the only way this gets better is committing to a system whereby either Kudus starts on the right wing and Bowen HAS to commit to playing either as a 10, or as a CF, which is sad because Bowen plays his best football cutting in from the right. the only way to fix this, is to sell one of them. thats it.
The thing I find really baffling is that J Lo supposedly watched us for the last 6 months & if that’s true you would have thought he would know exactly what was needed from our team. To be 5 games in & still not knowing what his best team is or what his ideas for us regarding our playing style is worrying. He talked about the support & our passion which he said he loved, but he needs to get his team playing with passion.
Every west ham fan knows Bowen is too "nice" for captain material. He is my favourite west ham player but captain NO thank you.
SO DO WE JUST KEEP GOING THROUGH MANAGERS TILL WE WON ?RIDICULOUS
Geo is spot on with the comments on Bowen being Captn, apparantly he's a shy & quite bloke & probably too much of a gent for that role, being up front also makes verbal info more difficult for him, you need a natural aggressive shouty toughguy in midfield that can read the whole game better, it's also beneficial & easier for feeding info from the managers tech area to the captn, IMO Alverez fits the role, Jarred won't say anything but looking at his body language i think its affecting his game, it's J-Lo's job to suss it & change it.
Most of our players, right now are worth about 70 – 100 quid! There is no passion, no interest in the game! Its easy to blame the manager, easy target, but those players at the weekend were shockingly bad!
We could be really decent in a proper system..
Last season 1st half v Leverkusen, pressed properly, Alvarez on front foot chased them down Bowen&Kudus the same we had a top class team back pedalling..we can play front foot football even under Moyes we did it that night for 45 mins, we were excellant… the tactics and coaching is wrong …what was Lp thinking? allowing full backs bombing on like that, felt sorry for Alvarez…Alvarez is a fine player..he had no chance in that set-up against Jackson&Palmer, terrible from Lp.. Alvarez is our best midfield ball winner, not a fkin centre half…jeez!! we've got the tools to do really well
Careful with that 'rank off' gonzo 😃
Floppy needs to stop playing that formation we need 4-4-2 or4-4-1-1 awb can defend but he is not a wingback if you played Bowen and Summerville wide in midfield Alvarez and paqueta in cm. Kudus in no10 or alongside fulkrug at least the midfield won’t get over ran,
Also, if you can support these two on patreon, I don’t watch all the patreon stuff, mostly just player ratings and matchday breakfast show. But for the £6.60 I pay a month for my tier, it’s not a lot relatively speaking. Keep up the good work gents 👍🏼
On this form Bowen will be dropped from next England squad
We need a player to lead by example. A combative tough player! Maybe Alvarez but he’d get sent off too often.
Steiden did not want floppy.
Great analysis gents..
Bowen is no captain for me. It’s far too much for the player to worry about..
Now if you take it away from him he’s screwed..
A lose – lose situation..
We have no leaders..🙄
Hope I’m wrong! ⚒️🙏🏻
They won’t take the armband off him now , imagine the detrimental effect on his moral, the awarding of captain to him stinks of keeping him on side and lack of judgment by the manager who had supposedly been studying the team for ages, forwards should never be captains, imagine what noble would have been doing out there on Saturday!!’
Just sack him
When you talked about how cunha and ati nouri were liberated under Gary O’neal makes complete sense when you realise that Lopetegui was a Goalkeeper. Goalkeepers have a limited understanding as they only see what happens in one half of the pitch, Lopetegui may know how he wants he defenders to play but as a Goalkeeper he must be clueless in how attackers play and to be effective on the opposite end of where Lopetegui spent his entire career.
So this is just a rehash video then
Next 3 games are so important. If we lose all 3 games…. then I would say we need a new manager.
This never happened under Moyes tho 🤔
The problem is, who would do a better job? Kilman? Alvarez? Surely we don't want Soucek or Paqueta to be our captain? It has to be Jarrod.
This gents is the dilemma, the likes of Bowen and Kudus are better with space on the counter attack. Counter attack itself was never the problem, when Antonio was at his best and Lingard had that magic six months we played some fabulous stuff. In fact the Boys of 86 played a lot of direct counter attack football with balls over the top for McAvennie and Cottee. The rot set in because we didn't get the right players in, Haller and Scamacca were never going to do what a younger Antonio did and bless him but Fornals or Kehrer were never going to do what Lingard did. I mean you could even have brought in battering ram Traore and turned him into a striker, he wouldn't have scored 20 goals a season but his power and pace would have created space for Bowen and Kudus. Tiki taka isn't always better. Counter attack wasn't Moyes problem, it was the crap recruitment that meant we ended up dropping deeper and deeper with no outlet.
Gonzo is a pinball wizard…there has to be a twist?
One thing that I'm noticing about West Ham on the pitch…they're roley poley, it looks like they haven't missed a meal, ¬ in a way that is effective to play. Some of the boys are a bit portly. Also, Bowen has always hit these snags every so often where he falls back and doesn't do up to optimum (he was looking SLOW vs Chelsea, or at least not leading w/a charge).
Lop has screwed up the positioning of a few players. This is an example of the enigmatics of Lop, and I hope it doesn't drag us down to red zone of relegation.
When I heard that JL had made Bowen captain, my instant reaction was I knew he had made a mistake. Bowen isn't a leader. He might think he is in his head….but from what I've seen, he is way off the mark. The Chelsea game proved me right. If he can't do it in front of his home fans…..how is he going to do it in an away game?
When Joe Root was made captain of the England cricket team I said the same thing. I had a big hunch that Root's natural game was going to disappear down the drain and his batting wasn't going to be at the standard we all knew he was capable of. I was right again. He was one of the best players England had, probably the best one to be honest. The same thing I think is happening to Bowen. He now has that responsibility on the pitch and he's got to have that attitude and behaviour that a Captain needs. I'm not saying he has to be like Roy Keane or Patrick Viera….but where their own game isn't going to be affected that much, if at all. I'm worried that it has already started to affect his natural game.
If Max Kilman was given the armband at Wolves by JL then why hasn't he given it to him at WHU? That's a question I'm struggling to answer. He saw something in Max that deserved the armband, so the easiest solution would have been to give it to him again. He knows his strengths and weaknesses more than he knows Bowens so it doesn't make sense to me why Bowen was given the captaincy. If JL has given Bowen the armband because he's been at the club longer than Kilman….then that in my book is no reason to give Bowen the armband. That's not how a Manager (Coach) should pick a captain. I would have given it to Kilman if I had the choice, irrespective of the fact that he had just come to the club.
West Ham play better as a unit when we have a flat back 4, home or away. The back 3 playing AWB and Emerson as wingbacks will not work. I never want to see it again. 433 or 4231 would be my choice. Both formations which JL is used to playing wherever he's gone. The Chelsea game was a complete fuck up by JL in his tactics. He should have seen the AWB and Emerson tactic wasn't right and put them back into a back 4 and told them to not push too high up. That would have nullified Chelsea and pushed it all through the middle. We would have been a far better match for Chelsea had JL done that after the first goal had gone in. For a coach of his history to not spot that is inexcusable.
I hope that this game is a big wake up call to JL and his staff and we never see a performance and set up like that again.
COYI
Oh so JLo’s predecessor DID get the best out of our attacking players last season after all then after the whingers said otherwise? 😁😂 Just the 60 league goals last season wasn’t it? Following on from getting 60 again and 62 in the 2 seasons prior to the seasons we won the Conference League. In a set up that produced far less possession than JLo too, fancy that! 🤷🏻♂️😁 Even in the 2nd half of last season when the players downed tools we were still scoring goals: 1 at Man City, 3 against Luton, 2 against Liverpool, 2 at Palace, etc. Other than us not having a younger long term replacement for Antonio in the squad our attack never was the problem under Moyes, it was the defence. He had a mare over the Zouma signing because of his knees and Aguerd signing because of his ability. He should’ve also told Tim to get stuffed over his Dinos choice.
So far, the team set up by JLo was playing too slow. Lacked pace. Kudus and Bowen strive when the team played w pace.
What’s up with the new position Gonzo? My OCD doesn’t like this! 😂
