…”We have to constantly adapt to that reality. Sometimes that means we might go into a transfer window with one player less than ideal, sometimes we have exactly the numbers, we always have to prioritise how we spend our resources.”

  1. Failing to get Olivia Smith was a massive deal.

As much as I think the planning or lack thereof is so stupid for us, we would have fixed many issues if we had just been able to recruit some of the players we identified like Chawinga and Olivia Smith. that inability needs to be solved. It’s not just the manager.

  2. Is she injured again? Did she come back from her injury from last season? Idk what’s happening with her and I’m glad the club are supporting her, but Edu and gang should have signed off on spending some money and maybe just seeing Hurtig draw down her contract in a worse case scenario. This situation isn’t recent or new.

  3. Tim is giving Jonas a way out with this question. No one with common sense would rely on Lina. Her injury is still a mystery to all of us, she’s back, she trained, joined pre season and then injured again. We don’t even know if it’s the same injury or new. Olivia Smith was available, fit Jonas style and didn’t get a look at. I mean he even played Ke as winger, he must know we were short.

We brought in 2 number 10 while only letting one go ( who already struggled with playing time). We played one number 10 as left winger, moved the natural one to right wing. It was deliberately tactical choice.

Our transfer fee & wage bill must be known really early this summer. Mariona was a free agent and we negotiated her wage before the season finished, DVD was rumored 4 to 5 months ago. The only surprise is Rosa which was hardly breaking a bank.

Imo, ultimately it’s his decision and to put this yes/no burden on the club right after the defeat feels wrong.

  4. Sports are so tricky because on the human side, I want the players to be healthy and happy and I love that they can advocate for their physical and mental health. I only want to field the best XI and actually try to win games. But on the business side, it’s hard to justify hanging on to dead weight (not a great term but it’s what fits). If a player is never fit to play, they are taking up a roster spot and kind of hurting the team.

Like I know I sound like a jerk but it’s the same thing in our jobs. My coworker is having a hard time, and while I hate it for them on a human level, it just makes my life harder if they can’t perform.

I fully respect the club not sharing what is wrong specifically. I like that we exist somewhere between Hayes hiding everything and Giràdelz telling everyone a player has diarrhea. But this just gets added to a long list of failure to plan for the team.

  5. I wish all good things for Hurtig, but I sincerely hope the club cuts her loose as soon as feasible. Personally, I’d try to do a deal in January. Taking up a valuable roster spot (and our limited cash) is not at all helpful. Whatever her talent (which we’ve not seen), it’s not worth it.
