I love shev but that is a bad statement by both.
First the award in my opinion should have gone to deco. Cl winner and euro finalist
Second chielini is a downgrade from Maldini, but hey he won more titles with italy than Maldini. And its arguable that the italian decline is due to chilini
Third the nedved comment is really bad. Nedved deserved to win, he won everything as a midfielder that year and they had a great chance to win the final had he not been suspended, and i say this as a milanista. If they had nedved that year it would go the other way
Fourth, chielini wanted Totti as the winner… i think there was a ton of other players who deserved it more that year
