Is it crazy to say that Alex Morgan should be in the top ten female soccer players of all time conversation

  1. Heads up: The title of this post is a question, but doesn’t have a question mark. It’s easy for your brain to switch the “Is” and “it” and instead read the title as a negative statement.

  2. Not at all. During the mid 2010s, when she was at her prime, the USA was unrivaled in woso, and several of the US players during that time can be regarded as some of the greatest players of all time when it comes to their international careers (Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, etc.) Even among these players, Alex Morgan stands out for her longevity with the team plus the many trophies she has won throughout her career.

Additionally, she and a lot of the USWNT were at the forefront of the development and popularization of women’s soccer during the 2010s, so not only is she one of the best players the sport has ever seen, she is arguably one of the most influential woso players too.

  4. It’s not crazy! I feel like I’d have to have a pretty long think about whether she actually makes my top ten (which outside a couple of players isn’t especially set) but she is at the very least in the conversation

  5. It’s not a crazy take but I don’t necessarily agree with it. She’s probably the last ‘great’ player of the old generation of women’s football, but with the game now being a full time, year-round professional thing and mindsets towards it changing, she’ll soon be surpassed on any ATG lists. But that’s how it’s meant to be if you want to grow the game.

tbh at this point any definite ATG lists would be impossible to make when things are changing so quickly across generations.

  6. I feel like the spicer take would be to say she’s not in the conversation. She’s probably not in the running for the absolute greatest and as the game grows other players will challenge for a place on a top ten list, but that’s a conversation for the future.
