Brazilian international Richarlison caused a bit of a stir in the Premier League at Nottingham Forest last weekend, when he showboated with Tottenham winning 2-0, by juggling the ball a few times in the 85th minute.

The ensuing furore from certain sections of the English media, pundits, and fans has been overwhelming, with some claiming that Richarlison should have been carded, not Brennan Johnson, or even that he deserved to get seriously injured.

In this video, HITC Sevens analyses that visceral reaction, what it says about British football culture, and the British / English psyche in general.

  1. The Yellow-card said at all.
Taking showmanship as a direct insult and moving in to retaliate with a foul then you have fallen victim to a mind-game that reduced your team's chances to win by:
    1. Giving away a freekick
    2. Getting a Card
    3. Ousting yourself as a fool that can be mind-gamed in the future which gives every psychological attacker power over you and makes you a puppet in the hands of any other killer type players and agents of chaos.

  2. Ppl hate other ppl entertaining same as lot of ppl hate success, I would like to say this is the minority and I applaud showboating and someone looking to entertain long may it continue.

Two of my favourite players in football were ghergehe hagi and of course Jay jay okocha long live show boating. Great video entertaining and full of day humour good work.

  3. I’ve never understood it. Flair adds beauty to the game and hurts no one. Horrible mentality, there’s no justification for The Nottingham player’s actions from my perspective.

  4. Oh damn, he did some keepy ups. So disrespectful. Bruh, are you serious? Not everyone enjoys watching boring old man city and Liverpool. If your fans of them you may think their stoic and very technical way of playing is great. But it’s boring, pep passes the ball and keeps possession, this didn’t work in the CL since he didn’t have a striker. Liverpool just are the same coin but a different side. They do high presses and shoot. Like yeah that’s kinda how you win things, but it’s boring. The fact that Neymar got injured because he was doing skills half as fancy as Ronaldinho, shows you how egotistical some people and players are. Bruh just because you do skills with a little flair doesn’t mean their tryna disrespect you, they do it because it makes the game fun. I don’t think there’s any benefit to nutmegging someone, like if you pass the ball past them and they don’t get it, they probably wouldn’t have got it if you got it past them by not nutmegging the defender.
Boring players and boring teams is what stops people from getting into the sport. Unless it’s a player that does mesmerizing dribbling like Messi or Ronaldo in his prime basically scoring 2 goals a game from almost anywhere. Football becomes boring with the players with flair.

  5. Do the Brits know their are other sports in the world? This is a sportsman rule or professionalis, this is someones job at the end of the day ….this wouldn't fly in Hockey, Baseball or Basketball.

I think the whole situation was handled perfectly…Richarlison disrespected Forest and Johnson tuned him in. Sets the precedent of anyone else doing that in the future. Their is a difference between this situation and what Ronaldinho would do.

  6. You guys keep buying our players and complain when they play our football. Fuck that. We play Art Football and transformed that into 5 world cups. If you don't like showboating, just play better.

  7. An italian football, show boating is a legitimate tactic to give your team the advantage after the defender made a rash decision to make a foul. You can tackle the show boater without fouling them, it seems to work italy. If the defender is good enough then he can turn the show boating into wasting possession.

  8. Juggling and acting like you could care less about the game is disrespectful. Should be a yellow card foul and the player not really injured. I can also see myself fouling or doing keepy upys.

  9. 😂 very enjoyable. You’re rants are so skilfully assembled I can only stand back and admire the beauty 😂 on the subject of diving/ conning refs I always think of winking Mickey Thomas and how Brian Moore and the crowd lap up his antics back in the seventies.

  10. This could be my favourite HITC Sevens video of all time. Incisive and earnest deep dive philosophical analyses (of things seemingly as trivial as a keepie-uppie) are what make this channel so great.
