Alexi Lalas and David Mosse react to USMNT’s 2-1 loss to Jesse Marsch and Canada. In a match that should have been a rebound from a poor Copa America, the group still lacks a sense of urgency. Despite the loss, Patrick Schulte’s performance, Luca De La Torre’s second half goal, and Mauricio Pochettino taking the helm keep hope alive.

  1. Alexi you keep saying the US is stronger on paper than Canada. I don't think that's true. They're both similar and Canada is in better form.

  2. The promised US soccer future never happened. 5 decades of soccer being one of the most popular youth sports, millions of kids exposed to the game, common sport in high school/college, travel teams, ODP, the whole schmear. And very little to show for it.

The US development system, for the men at least, is fundamentally flawed and we will continue to be disappointed until it is reformed. But it won’t be.

  3. I was so impressed our U23 made it to the Olympics and through the group stage. I felt like the men's team was taking the next step to raise the program up a level. This result is so disappointing. Regressed

  4. No coach. No heart. No talent. No interest. No balls. This team is getting grouped at WC 2026 and they don’t even care. Or they do, but they whine and cry about it instead of putting in the work. Get better or get off the team. I’d rather play some hungry youth than these spoiled regulars who think they deserve their spots for whatever reason.

  5. The BIG problem that I see is that the defense is still terrible. The problem with that is there is no one to sub in. We still have Ream in there (he is too old at this point), zimmerman (wtf this is the best we can do?) and Richards who makes too many bad passes. The opponents know this – don't have to play real soccer. Just use the high press and wait for a mistake. We are trying to be one of the best teams in the world. Our current center backs are no where close and who do we replace them with. Not looking good.

  6. Canada has better players period. USA doesn’t have an Alphonso Davies or a Jonathan David. And they have a lot of MLS players so the league isn’t a problem.

  7. USMNT fans should realize that the talent on this team just isn't good enough. Pulisic is a star (at least he played like one last season), Jedi is a great LB, but the rest are either bench players for their clubs or play in 2nd tier leagues or midtable teams. We are far away from being an elite team, and Poch is not going to fix that. If a player sitting on the Nottingham bench is one of our best attacking midfielders, that's an indication that our talent pool is thin. Very thin. And our GK, CB situations are horrendous.
