Look at Juventus and Inter: they primarily adopt a low-block defense with occasional high pressing, focusing on counter-attacking opportunities and maintaining a compact team shape. In contrast, Milan, in their pursuit of so-called ball possession, has neglected off-the-ball positioning and defensive depth. To achieve high pressing, the forwards concentrate on the ball, ignoring the compactness between the midfield and defense, which forces the defenders into one-on-one marking situations. The effectiveness of the defense then relies solely on the players' physical condition and ability to win individual duels. If they fail, the opponents can attack directly at the goalkeeper. Moreover, the so-called high pressing fails to be effective due to a lack of overall compactness, exposing the backline to vulnerability when aggressively pushing forward to retain possession.
This impractical tactical setup is the core reason for the team's unfavorable situation. From the perspective of individual players, the current squad resources are not so inadequate as to lead to such a decline. The head coach indeed bears the main responsibility. Whether the head coach can realize this and has the courage to overturn an entire summer's preparation and completely change his tactical strategy remains to be seen.
