Erik ten Hag’s got a crazy new 3-1-6 system for Manchester United this season, in the hopes of fixing his side’s recent defensive frailties. The acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from PSG might not be one that looks immediately exciting, but when examined in the context of the formation change it’s one that makes a lot of sense. Adam Clery breaks down the players strengths and weaknesses.

🏃 Hello! As mentioned, I'm doing the Great North Run in September to raise money for Mind. They provide vital mental health services in the UK, and I can personally attest to him important that can be for people. A small amount goes way further than you might think, so any donations are enormously appreciated. Thank you

Man Utd system seems to be whatever the players feel like on the day 😂
Great video, Please do the 3-1-6 tactical analysis for Man Utd
£50M? That’s not true, is it?
Go watch some old Roy Keane games! You clearly haven't
I'm sure I saw this video about Donny van de Beek
ugarte did well about tackling or defending but his slow thinking and keep ball too long and late pass will be problem.
but the most important about this clip is "stop spout nonsense shit about ROY KEANE if u have non-knowledge about him"
No to Harry fucking Maguire
Paulinha is 29 and Ugarte is 23 he has higer sealing
Dont dream alot still cannot win epl cup. this season wait and see still manchester city the best🤣🤣
And so another headless chicken for United!
Now Mainoo have more freedom to support attacks
No more excuses for ETH after this window. Top 4 with max 10 points off the top is the minimum he should achieve.
Our new system needs forward players that can go forward. Our wingers are trash
That is not really the initial eleven of Manchester United, Bruno is not our striker, he is playing there due Højlund is injury and Zirkzee was not in a 100% physically, but when they are recovered they will play from the beginning every match and also Yoro plays for the right side and he will not replace to Lisandro. The real initial eleven is (When Shaw is back he will play in the left side and Dalot in the right side):
Onana
Dalot/Shaw
Lisandro
De Ligt
Mazroui/Dalot
Mainoo
Casemiro
Rashford
Bruno
Diallo
Hojlund/Zirkzee
Ugarte will play when Casemiro is not available or for Mainoo in some matches.
I thought for a second after clicking on this video you were De Zerbi 😂😂
Unfortunately the EPL is all different we shall see his skills soon
Imagine Harry McGuire carrying your defense in 2024
does the heatmap include the several games casemiro played at CB?
Ten hag is a good coach. He'll improve on his ball playing, we saw it with Aaron.
I think United will play much tighter at the back with de Ligt or Yuro sat CB and Ugarter in the middle. Maguire isnt mobile enough
with 10HAg as manager and ClownGuire on the roaster, Ugarte makes no difference.
Though I don't think he's quite as limited on the ball as you're making out, I do take the point about his limitations. We have Mainoo and Bruno to come and get the ball from the defence though. His limitations in possession will be far outweighed by what he offers the team when we don't have the ball.
The footage of the ball from Onana to Dalot is telling. The central players should be moving forward, not so much that they can't recover of course, when that ball is in the air in anticipation of Dalot winning it. If you notice even after the ball has entered the space and Dalot is clearly running onto it, Fernandes and to a lesser extent Mount are still jogging instead of busting a lung to get into the box for an eventual cross. Both should be 10 yards further up the pitch when the ball hots Dalot's head.
All well and good until they announce he’s injured for 7 weeks
we have players that are great on the ball, mainoo for one i think thats why it makes sense, we need that brutal tackling CDM we have it at CB with the butcher
Tacticos are a menace.
Really enjoy these videos! Thanks guys!
Don't worry, we'll coach the talent out of him 😜
Ugarte and Yoro are part of a spine that will be great for years
But leaving Ugarte alone in midfield seems like a bad idea if hes terrible under pressure.
In any case, we'll just have to wait and see how well they play as a team and if Ugarte can learn a thing or two from Nistelroy + Ten Hag & his teammates on how to be calm under pressure
I bet he won't be played by Ten Haag
heatmap comparison was funny because we know casi was playing as CB and always does corner header so that why hes map was more diverse
Too many football experts is making me dizzy. You lot are more difficult than the media. Just creating your own game and your own formations. Why not do your coaching badges? 🤦♂️
We’re a few changes away from doing well
Another Adam Clery banger
It doesn't, honestly. The transfer actually makes no sense, it is just fanfare as usual. He is the exact same kind of player as Mainoo and Casemiro. Safety first with very little progression. Defensively solid and good at retaining the ball.
We needed a ball progressor. A younger Eriksen with enough legs to run around but similar progressive passing. Our midfield has nobody in it to get the ball up the pitch ffs.
He went to PSG for 60m and they sold him 12 months later for a loss. Says it all, really. We will look back at this as an awful bit of business.
United should switch to 3-2-4-1 formation now. It's our best bet for player longeveity now
Remember when you said Amrabat solved all Uniteds problems? 🙃
Man utd bought him for ten haag not to play him
I wish you were a trader giving trading tutorials. If you were explaining trading it'd be so much more interesting and understandable.
A little bit of “weird” editing in that video where it seemed to jump. For example when you were talking about the Newcastle game
wales!
Casemiro played CB for a third of the season
Great video and analysis, bro.. keep it up!
This video is messing with my feelings….I don't know how to feel about Ugarte now…oh well see we shall. A lot was said about Martinez when he first came in, just ask Jamie
❤❤❤I love ur Analysis man
The average position shows how isolated Maguire is at the back, luckily hes been fairly solid of late!
So you're saying we basically signed a younger Casemiro
