Talks are understood to be advancing between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

There is a willingness from all parties to conclude a deal. One source claims there is a cautious optimism the move can happen before the deadline on August 30.

A permanent deal is the preference for both United and PSG – but a loan with an obligation has also been mooted.

United are creating further squad space with a couple of potential exits in Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley.

  1. Utd fan all my life. We had the glory days throghout the 90s. This team, even with signings we have done will be nowhere near top 2. Aim for top 4 will be our aim. Lets see

  2. Sky are saving money ….how much cheaper are these guys to hire compared to ex pros….but sky TV fees keep going up ..and they expect people to be honest and not get firedsticks

  3. Its a bit early to write Casemiro off . He had a few injuries last season and looked over weight ..he was rarely injured at Madrid ..he was brilliant against City and utds best player against fulham he looks a lot leaner and fitter already this season .

  4. All these people who don't understand football think ugarte is better than casemiro. Casemiro struggled last season because Fernandez didn't defend the middle of the pack but was chasing the goalkeeper, leaving casemiro to defend three players, not even
ugarte will flourish defending against three players.

  5. In fairness Ugarte did that in a league that you are the only hard game were as Casemiro did that in a league that everyone believed it was possible to take points from Man U so you would hope there would be a large discrepancy the stats achieved

  6. I think people are sleeping on United this season. Even with the number of crucial injuries and how terrible they played because of that last season, while they finished 8th, it was still just 3 wins outside the top four. Still a long way behind City of course but when relatively fit, United's squad is a top four squad.

The addition of De Ligt in particular adds a whole new dimension. Martinez was essentially De Ligt's replacement at Ajax and you've also got Onana and Mazraoui, that's 4 of the back 5 who played in ten Hag's Ajax system. Players who excel at playing out and crucially, playing through the lines. Then you have Yoro who is lightning quick as an alternative option. All of that is before you factor in Zirkzee (who can rotate with Hojlund or play alongside him) and Ugarte (assuming the deal gets done), the continued rise of Mainoo, Amad starting to show why we took a gamble on him and Garnacho on a mission to emulate Ronaldo.

All of a sudden, United look dangerous. Not having to rely on Maguire and Lindelof is a big help. Ten Hag said he couldn't set the team up the Ajax way because he didn't have the players. Well he has the players now. I don't expect United to full Ajax but I expect to see a lot more confidence on the ball, moving the ball between the lines.

The crucial factor is fitness. United's injury record last season was awful. That needs to be rectified. If it is, United should be comfortable in the top four. Can they mount a title challenge? I don't think it's beyond them. They suddenly have a world class defence, a vastly improved midfield and more attacking options.

Of course it could also go tits up and ten Hag could be gone by Christmas but I think he's been given the tools now to prove himself so let's see what happens.

  7. As a fellow ManUtd fan I can say I hate when they show these ridiculous stats. Consider the league quality and opposition when comparing. He is good but dont hype him up this much and then slam him when his form dips later.

  8. Wouldn't the league difference be a big factor in the stats? I mean, you can't really compare unless their both playing in the same league.

  9. Comparing casee to urgate in a season where he was injured and when he came he played in CD is just disgrace and disrespectful to casee. Ugarte is aggressive but technically he is just woeful. It's just another mctomney without goal scoring ability

  10. I would chose Amrabat over this guy.. Amrabat really showed what Manchester United needs for TenHags's gameplay to work.. Someone to control the midfield.. Someone to help Kobbie

  11. I can’t take this Flex bloke seriously

Can’t you get someone who we feel knows what they’re talking about

    Instead of a YouTuber?

    Cheers

  12. I'd rather use play Mainoo as an 8. He's too good on the ball to use him as a combative 6 even though he could do a job.

Ugarte just needs to give him the ball.
