A new era has begun. In defeat.

The 2-1 loss to Aston Villa last weekend was a frustrating one and, as seems to be the case with most things these days, completely split the fanbase. One half saw positives in the performance and signs that Julen Lopetegui’s philosophy will eventually come good, while the other half felt like is much of the same as we saw under David Moyes and have already started comparing everything.

Yep, you guessed it, it’s the exact same thing on this podcast. James is upbeat and says he saw enough in the performance to be confident of eventual success. Will didn’t see any of that and is still questioning the decision to part ways with David Moyes.

So that debate and discussion understandably takes up the majority of this week’s podcast, while the lads also discuss the ticket concessions again in more detail and then look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Oh, and James gives the new signings his rating out of 10 after five of the eight new faces made their debuts. Will disagreed with almost all of them. Obviously.

  1. I agree with James. The first 30 minutes were atrocious but after we scored the penalty we gained confidence. We were competing well with a team that are trying to learn a new style of football after playing a low block for 4 years. It will take time to rewire their footballing brains We also had 6 of our near signings on the bench for most of the game. Our team should look very different in a few weeks time once the new players are settled. We can't have a player that made 10 passes in 97 minutes in our midfield. Soucek has to be on the bench. Yes he can get on the end of chances but our all round play is worse with him on the pitch. Anyway, we will only get better from here.

  2. Are you guys not worried that antonio has passed the threshold of being a premier striker.he def looked like hes age has caught up with him i know its just one game but the signs did not look good

  3. Seems like Will's gonna find it hard like myself, not to goad the Moyes Out brigade. I have tried my best not to point out the hypocrisy shown by some over recent weeks. Signing 30+ year olds and sticking the academy players on loan probably would have been viewed very differently had it been Moyes' doing. Although I think there are some who'll blame Moyes for whatever's wrong with the club forevermore.

I think we played OK on Saturday. We showed for probably 35-40 minutes throughout the game that we can play a bit. Hopefully it gets better game by game as the new players bed it. Just a bit concerned if we lose to Palace and Fulham that we'll end up having a difficult season. Don't want the pressure to build early on.

  4. Time to stop whining Will. New season and new manager, People dont wanna sit her and hear you say i told you so when it's clearly way to early for that… Change was inevitable, for better or for worse so please get behind it.
