The difference between united and the rest is is the legacy incl the iconic OTF, so its a very bad idea to replace it.
If they did knock down the stands and chose to keep the same location would help preserve the feeling of the stadium for match days. It would be a nice show of respect to keep some/most of the soil and carry it over to the new build or renovated pitch/stands.

Mark, losing Old Trafford would be a shame. In the US we have had so many of the historic pre-war baseball parks torn down. Three are only a couple that have survived, in Boston & Chicago. They should not build a futuristic-looking stadium. Here is San Diego, we built a new baseball park that has historic feel but with all the high-tech luxurious amenities.
