picture where Gareth started off England were in big trouble you know you can remember that Iceland result so he’s dragged her from the very bottom and taken us to to nearly a team that can be successful but we’ve had that three years ago and we’ve got a better team now and a better Squad now so when that happens expectation are higher and you’ve got to cope with that unfortunately you’ve got to get over the line and and get into finals when you’ve got the quality of players like England have and not winning it is not going to be good enough aside from the result it’s quite obvious you be disappointed with that but were you disappointed with England’s performance Alan yeah there hasn’t there hasn’t been enough performances in terms of we said about Spar play on the front foot and their passing being really crisp and had a pierce to it and energy to it England probably had that in the first 30 minutes of the first game and Serbia and maybe had that a little bit against the uh in the quarterfinal and then of course in the semi-final they had it they had it was much better in the second half but we’ve not really seen enough of it England have been a team of moments you know when we’ve desperately needed a big player to produce something special that’s what and when we’ve seen the best out of England they’ve got togetherness they’ve got a Ste feel about them but in terms of a full better performance I think they’re better than what they’ve shown us okay uh thank you um Alan we’ll U we’ll meet later for for for a couple of beers we need we need to do something after this to try and console ourselves um disappointment but um not disappointment for for of course for Spain um let’s let’s go through the goals William the first one we at Hal time we thought no R in the whole game to try to create things and he got his gift there with with a very nice goal okay I’ll pause you just for a second because um we can get a word from the England Coach G South gates with well Gareth commiserations another final another heartbreak ultimately how do you reflects on that yeah look I think we’ve competed until the very end of the final um I think today we didn’t we didn’t keep possession of the ball quite well enough and um especially when we defended well we got moments where they press you really well you’ve got to get out of that pressure and we weren’t able to do that and um yeah in the end that meant they had more control of the game and and that can wear you down a bit that that said you know we were still right in there um when we get the equalizer so game was still wide open I I’d need to see both the goals back to be able to I haven’t really watched them back but um yeah and obviously a big chance at the end as well to equalize so yeah it’s as always in these games it’s fine margins but I think they were the best team in the tournament and uh I think over the over the piece they deserve to win substitutes have changed games for you throughout the tournament Cole Palmer almost did it for you again but did it feel like maybe it was one game one moment too far yeah I don’t know I mean it’s it’s easy to say that um and and there’s definitely a disadvantage to having a day left to prepare but we we were still in the game at 80 minutes and uh yeah it’s going to take a while to sort of pick all the bones out of it really you took Harry Kane off your captain England’s record goal scorer early once again who’s getting him into the games getting the best out of him been a bit of a problem for you in England this tournament yeah look I think physically it’s been a tough period for him he came in short of games uh and uh not not quite got up to the level that we’d have all hoped the games are hugely demanding and we felt O’s freshness would allow us to press a bit better uh which we needed to do would would offer us a threat in behind um so I thought the two substitutes that that came on you know did did what we wanted them to really said from the music’s incredibly loud behind us but we’ll try give us if we appear to be shouting a little bit at home the three games where England have had the least possession I’ve got a startat here at major tournaments under Southgate all resulted in elimination 34.6% against Italy 3 years ago 34.9% tonight and 44% against Croatia at the 2018 World Cup tells you you need to get a bit of the ball you need in these games we keep saying the word brave you want a bit of that but you I mean we can look at the next goal if you want and then we can have a look at one of the reasons as to why in this game we lost the game got it’s like a knife through butter through the middle of our team and you can’t be open like that in these games you have to be Resolute with they’ve been before but vertical passes one two and then three through the C central part of your team and I’m sure in training ground that all around the country around the world that is something that you find you want to be impossible against your team it was too easy to get through the middle and up the pitch with question marks about offside but the quality of that goal cannot be underestimated as well the assist right the assist from Korea that first touch hard pass that really takes P for out of the way and then puts it in a plate for saal but I think those two three vertical passes really hurt yeah well would say as well I think that we are criticizing and analyzing England but you have to say this Spanish team make it supremely difficult the way that they counter press you and suffocate you and don’t allow you any time or space on the ball for long periods I’ve been in that situation against a great Barcelona team I know what it’s like is hard you you’ve got to find a way in these big games unfortunately England didn’t yeah I I would agree with that I think what was difficult to see from my point of view defender’s point of view England have been good defensively at times 86 minutes on the clock and the and the chasing you need to defend properly there I mean we know finals are normally KY anyway you get you know 4 minutes plus stoppage time you see the game out you go in extra time and then you can do something there I just thought it was it was sloppy and it was naive in a final let’s talk about the young player of the tournament um wow he lit it up he lit it up I mean he’s 17 now he’s pass his we we talked before didn’t we about the the the youngster sort of arriving onto the scene I mean we talked about him coming inside and sometimes going on the outside but it’s the players that he attracts also that we’ve not talked about lovely assist there I mean sometimes as a as a full back when a player’s got that much quality I think in the first half Luke shot got nice and tight and then you might started picking up different positions in the pockets here knows exactly where he needs to be and then he becomes more difficult to defend playing through ball and about play it’s a superstar 17 years of age it’s crazy I have to say that again he’s actually scored or assisted in all four of Spain’s knockout games he’s the first player to be directly involved in goals in the quarterfinal semifinal and final at the Euros yeah I mean he’s become a superstar in this tournament he was a star before he a superstar now but I would say first half we mentioned and we highlighted Shaw doing very well against him that can happen sometimes against the top players where you think I’ve got him I’ve got him now and the one moment they get when you’re not onto him and you’re not tight and they turn they affect the game that’s that’s the elite player he’s in that category I’m telling you Nico Williams wasn’t bad either was he second half and you look at his his touch map here what I asked you before the game Gary how could hurricane affect the game today and you look at it’s one touch in in the box and I know he’s going to get frustrated we know he wants to get on the ball and that’s fine because we know that’s his strength but the clips that we’ve just shown there those times where he’s in the pocket space but his sharpness was was way off Where Do We Go From Here Rio well I think obviously there’s going to be a big debrief and they’ll they’ll look at things but I just I just feel you have to look at what talent pool you have and I think we have a fantastic talent pool we’re sitting there talking we’re Mar marveling over the talent we have before the game but we don’t see it executed in the game and I I don’t feel that we’re putting our players in the best position possible for them to do that so I think obviously the manager is going to have to take a little bit of stick for that and we’re going to dissect that and it’s going to be dissected for days weeks months and they’ve got a big decision to make the fa well I think they before the or during the tournament they said they wanted to carry on with Gareth sgate I suspect Gareth might have had enough I don’t know it’s a it’s a cruel tough job yeah it’s training isn’t it I mean I think the fact that when you take the England job is a pressurized job Impossible J one of one of the biggest jobs in in in World football and that comes with scrutiny he knew what he was getting himself into like I said he’s given some some great moments but now we need to go forward to go to the next step because we talked about golden generation with you with your era and it didn’t get to the level that it was supposed to be it’d be such a shame with these players that we have now I think we don’t win I think we should give the final word towan Mata um where did Spain go from here I suppose they go home to celebrate don’t they they do yeah they go home what a performance yeah they go home to celebrate this incredible performance I was asking we were asking in Spain please can the team play the same way as in the whole tournament they did especially in the second half so so the sky is
