Virgil van Dijk was left fuming with a reporter who questioned the integrity of the referee who oversaw England’s dramatic victory over the Netherlands.

Full respect to Van Dijk for handling this question so well given his team has just lost a semi final π
Go on virgil lad get them told.
Are these journalists or the average bum sitting at the bar at 9AM with a beer, they talk the same and ask the same stupid questions.
Classy player and wise man
Full respect to Virgil. Eloquent and classy response.
Trying to put words into his mouth – whatβs all that about? Back off and let him be.
The guy with the blue AFP mic hijacks the interview and asks a dumb question. Who employed that guy?
Some of these sports intervewers are idiots !
There was no real need for that question at the end other than trying to get a headline. Zero respect for whoever asked that question but 100% for Van Dijk for dealing with such stupidity calmly.
Respect to him. Called it as it was. Personally as an England supporter I did not think it was a penalty. But sometimes you get bad breaks. As for VAR, I think it is destroying the game.
Right up there with the most gifted, physically impressive, dominant, and INTELLIGENT defenders (and, arguably, players, full stop) to ever play the game… if those emotionally undeveloped hobbits in his country could have gotten past their instinctive, self-centred need to be hyper-critical of him – as they instinctively are of compatriots who excel or gain recognition internationally (very strange!) – MAYBE, just maybe, the spirit in the Dutch camp might have been that fraction of a percent BETTER, such that the players would not – through mental fatigue at the end of a game – have gotten so sucked in by (an admittedly provocative refereeing error) to be THAT FRACTION OF A SECOND off the pace of the game through anger, to allow England to sucker-punch them.
Spain ultimately deserves to win this tournament for their government's courage, honesty, and moral leadership on Gaza. An English or Dutch win in the Final would amount to "sport-washing" for the homicidal Tribe of Judah but, nevertheless, the Dutch pundits AND PEOPLE, need to know that they have self-sabotaged (perhaps wilfully in some cases) in this tournament. They do not deserve van Dijk and it would serve them right if he were to decided that he doesn't need the grief of being scapegoated for their insecurities – racial and otherwise – in the future and retires from international football. That, of course wouldn't stop the haters like van Basten: the new narrative (when they got dumped out the next tournament without him) would be that he might have been the difference and is unpatriotic for having made himself unavailable. Racists will always find a stick with which to try and beat those they envy, fear and, therefore hate over the head…
I used to rate van Basten for his own imperious talent but first started to look at him with different eyes when – at the PREVIOUS international tournament – he made the single UGLIEST, nastiest, most small-minded comment I've ever heard a former player say about a current professional: "HE IS THE BEST PLAYER, BUT HE JUST DOES SO LITTLE TO HELP THE TEAM"(!). The guy is a central defender and CAPTAINS the team for Christ sake! Now with van Basten – even after that most shameful and unforgivable of low-blows – having the gall to pick up his campaign of spiteful sniping this time around (instead of just leaving it to the other haters when there are so many) I would not cross the street to spit on him. Giant of a footballer; diseased, hunchbacked, PYGMY of a man…
As to Gullit, of all people, feeling obligated to get in on the "van Dijk bashing", that is just testament to how racialised and sick Dutch society is with covert racism on account of Dutch people being so emotionally immature that the shrewdest of European business brains is prevented from making the simple mental separation between entirely legitimate concerns over immigration and attitudes to their own long-established non-white community. It is not so much that they let the former question "bleed" into the latter as WASH OVER it!
And yes, I HAVE lived there…
I hope that journo feels really ashamed of himself unlinke Virgil who should be proud of how he conducted himself
ππ¬π§
Chin up virgil
Virgil, remember Koemans professional foul, and not getting sent off, luck swings in roundabouts in football, as you well know. Englands night tonight ππ»ππ»
To be fair that ref was awful for the dutch. Biased towards england
Proper man response, great player, handled that so well, they were trying so hard to get in trouble
Let's be clear, the Referee won the game for England.
I don't think there's any doubt about which team was the better on the night; England.
This ref may have taken a covert bribe from the big brewery corporations . Billions of gallons of beer to be consumed the further England progress in the tournament
Stupid question at the end, of course nobody is going to answer that and take that bait
Massive respect to Van and so glad he put them tossers in there place. press reporters like them are exactly the kind that give the worlds media such a bad reputation. They would sell their children to the devil for a story ..
Non ethical journalism
VVD isn't stooping to their level. He's more bothered about taking responsibility for the defeat than blaming it all on the referee. Well played
With that penalty Iβd be asking the same question
Dick van Dick
Football is fixed we all know this gambling companies make billions at the misery of the punters
Class act
He's silent when the refs are giving Liverpool decisions do one Virgil
England on balance were the better team. The best side won. Simple
.. "In that (other) game he was alright" Consider himself in trouble π€£
British media are worse than pond life. Lowest of the low. They are the reason the UK gets a bad name. Filthy journos.
Journalism is a disgrace and so what if he really wanted to speak his mind. He should be allowed to say whatever he wants without consequences. Im sick of players behaving like robots just because they might offend someone. Jesus christ.
A pure class interview from VVD, spoke with with respect and dignity. Respect to you Virgil and total disrespect from the interviewer at the end.
