Netherlands vs England Pregame Show | FOX Soccer Now
all right there is a look at the Dutch fans who are absolutely buzzing as their beloved national team are in a euro semi-final for the first time since 2004 and they’re looking to get into their first final since 1988 a final they won by the way which was also in Germany but can they take down the Three Lions of England and this player in particular Jude Bellingham who is the La Liga player of the Season scored arguably the best goal of the tournaments but there’s their manager Garth Southgate who’s being being heavily scrutinized back at home for maybe lacking some creativity especially in the attack we’re going to break this game down for you because that’s what we do on your favorite show on the internet Fox sucker now was look what has happened minino have we just witnessed the winning moment Cates Trent Alexander Arnold and he does the roof comes off at do ending the throw to the zies pure undiluted joy for England fre slides it through it’s coming in with G he’s scored another one Berlin has become orange and the Netherlands own Golden Boot Teo Hernandez versus Doo Costa and he scores and France win and France will play Spain in the semifinals in Munich Teo Hernandez the hero and France Mar all right there is a look at BBB stadion home of Bia Dortmund in Bia Germany and the home of the second semi-final in year 2024 between the Netherlands and England this is the first time that both of these countries have met in a major tournament knockout round before so very exciting and also very wet the rain is coming down quite hard there right now we see if that has any impact on this big game and welcome into Fox Soccer Now presented by Geico whatever you need get more with Geico I’m Jimmy Conrad and we are getting close to the finish line of this tournament we got one more semi-final left to go after Spain booked their tickets to the final yesterday against France in a very good performance from then can englands or can Netherlands do the same let’s take a look at the bracket here as I mentioned that fun stuff is done this side of the bracket is over Spain arguably the best team in the tournament working their way through and got to the final well played to them on the other side maybe a little bit more clunky the performances not as smooth but we have two powerhouses in the game Netherlands and England getting after it and I’m excited to see which team is going to show up consistently for 90 minutes but I’m not doing this by myself I got two of my friends with me Melissa Ortiz and Wes Morgan and West I’m coming to you first you got the three lion shirt on we got to get a temperature check how are you feeling nervous excited a little bit of both a little bit of both you know I’m excited we got to the stage semi-finals in the group stages it didn’t look too good but we’ve almost limped all the way to the semi-finals and here we are so I’m happy to be here but now we’re here we should get to the final you know netherland’s a team that’s beatable um I think the boys that’s been playing have grewing confidence throughout the competition and yeah you know I’ve got my English on so I need some positive energy from you guys okay so Mellie Let’s Pretend Wes isn’t here okay let’s do that England hasn’t been very good they can’t they can’t do it again shate we’re going straight to it but but maybe there’s the flip side of that argument is maybe they’re du to have their best game in the semi-final against the Dutch yeah maybe they’ve been waiting and uh hiding all of their their secrets or or tricks for this exact moment but no on a serious note I think England they always come up clutch in certain moments and like you said Wes they kind of trickled their way through to get to this point I do think that they could pull this off and credit I mean they’re going against a very good touch team that has been scoring and scoring or scoring but England majority of the time finds a way to figure it out at the end of the even at the end of predictions yet make them wait make him wait no spoiler alerts for everybody well Wes isn’t the only Brit that I had a chance to talk to to we had our very own and one of my favorite people Warren Barton sat down with me or actually I was standing for most of it in an interview about England’s chances let’s take a look at this Warren great to see you as always now as someone who played in the 1950 World Cup for England we know you have a lot of experience so I can’t wait to get your Insight on what England needs to do to beat the Netherlands in the semifinals what do you think it’s a tough game Jimmy um I was lucky enough to see him against Austria where Austria outplayed them uh tactically the Netherlands wasn’t up to that game but they had a bounce back against Romania where I think you see the true Dutch mentality of playing Total Football getting the ball wide isolating individuals no if england can get their act together but we’ve been saying that for the last four or five games uh we can give everybody a game but it is about qualification it is about getting through uh the group stages knockout stages and now you’re in the semi-final so if england are going to get a success is when the Netherlands fullbacks do push on and it leaves their two Center halfes isolated now whether we go with golden as a bit of pace out wide or sacka foden whatever it may be but it’s a tough game uh but I do believe with England knowing this opposition very well a lot of players are in the same team together playing the same league together it it suits Us in the sense that the Dutch won’t fear us and they come forward and make it difficult and that may leave a little bit of space in and around behind uh for England to get in it’s going to be difficult through the middle for Harry Kane with the two Center halfes who uh van dijk is obviously an outstanding player wer that he’s played against him and knows how good he is um but and then wide I think England can cause him some problems all right so who do you think is going to be more dangerous in this game Cody gakpo buaya Saka or that cat behind you in the wall this is one that I got earlier from South Africa um I think Saka I think he’s got his confidence up um he’s better in a one-on-one situation uh Cody gapo has been excellent but I had a little disagreement with Lexi Lis which doesn’t surprise you about defending and he said he he would show him inside and he gets majority of his goals from coming inside if it was me and it’s against possibly Cole walker uh which you know him very well I’d push him on the outside because he’s always wants to come back inside I think if Cody G you push him to one side he’s not going to come back he needs a supply the large parts of the game Jimmy uh that I watched and commentated on he didn’t get the ball uh he was pretty starved of any service but when he gets it he’s very direct likes to come inside with his right foot um but I think Kyle Walker doesn’t need me to tell him how to defend against him and you show him downside and then people can come across like Declan rice to help you out so I’m going to go with sacka with the confidence that he got with the goal so pleased for the young player to get the penny as well my one of colleagues great Stuart Pierce did that in 96 he missed in the World Cup semi-final in 19 90 and then he did it against Spain and got that uh pen goal there so I think for everybody we was pleased with him and it’s it’s a one-off game Jimmy you know that Anything Can Happen um and as I said for England if they can really get going against the Netherlands it should be a wonderful game it should be an entertaining game we hope uh and I just favor England in a tight game to to win this yeah I could see that unfolding as well let’s talk about England’s manager gar Southgate he’s obviously under a ton of pressure do you think that is warranted Warren 30% of it yeah 30% of it Jimmy I think um with the expectations of the Nations you know I’ve been through this before we got to the semi-finals in Euro 96 we didn’t qualify for the World Cup in in ’94 we got knocked out in the Euros as well so it hasn’t been uh plain sailing for England as well involved in you know France 98 and you know got knocked out there as well so we’ve gone a lot further than anybody else but this talented group of played and I don’t know whether Jimmy you agree with me I think his last group in probably guitar is more talented than this group because of how short we are defensively but he still managed to get us to a semi-final haven’t played well uh but like Gare said it’s about getting to uh The Knockout stages and and obviously qualifying and being top of their group so 30% is it I’ve been sitting there as a fan saying can we plee go forward can we pass the ball forward can we entertain with all our players but then if you look at his record it’s second to to the one person who won it back in 1966 and I missed out on that roster actually I was too old to play for that one Jimmy I love that and I appreciate you uh dealing with my banter that’s coming your way so what’s the score line G be was it banter I didn’t realize it was banter I just thought it was your American humor I realize it was banter well Sor I could make the banter a little bit better I guess so that uh you could understand it in a British way speak to me though about the pick like what’s your score line going to be in this game uh 2-1 to England I think the Netherlands May score and England have shown great resilience and character at the comeback uh it’s never going to be a walk in the par but I’m going to go 2-1 England and Harry Kane to get another goal to shut a lot of people up because people keep staying back home about they should drop him and these people have never kicked a ball before in their Liv so from my point of view uh and again I think it’s great that G have come out and said we have got no divine right to say that we’re favorites we’re going to win it because we haven’t won anything for God knows how long I said 1966 so stop the talking just win the game and then hopefully we can bring that trophy back home well Warren I uh wish you the best of luck as you guys get to the final and then eventually lose to Spain should be pretty cool yeah well at least we’re in the final the us back home they’re doing pre-season doing pre-season thank you Warren Barton we appreciate you pleasure anytime I’ll miss you Jimmy love you miss you too love you love you as well I wasn’t ready for the the American were not doing well come back from Warren Warren he was ready for me I appreciate his his time of course Warren one of our favorite people he spent a lot of time with us here on this show at the World Cup in Doha and Qatar and we miss him dearly well let’s get into the fan feed so we have Dutch fans and in fans doing Hey Jude together I think that’s interesting what do you say Wes the Dutch fans singing Hey Jude with the English fans sometime to just go along with a song If it’s a good song just go along with it you know I mean the are in great mood there so with the England fans it’s good to see how many beers in are they to to be a a lot of beers you usually have beers and sing Hey Jude this there you go I mean I couldn’t I couldn’t imagine English fans singing about Virgil Van djk you know like before a big International to it yeah maybe Liverpool fans maybe they would be the ones pretty cool to see though that type of camaraderie and spirit at this game in Germany all right so more orange fans I don’t know we’ve talked about them before but they have to be one of the most passionate fan bases in the world I got a chance to hang out with them in 2012 at the Euros in Poland and Ukraine and then again in Brazil for 2014 I got to ride the orange bus it is next level and if it’s not on your bucket list you should put it on your bucket list go hang out with the Dutch fans for an International Tournament and then there is uh the new prime minister Kier starmer has asked officials to pass some notes updating him about the England versus Netherland semi-final during the NATO Summit because phones are taken off them due to security reasons so you love to see that that’s passion in the middle of some politics got we got time for that and then I don’t know if anybody saw this commercial from England or this this advert SLV video they put out the three lines Ivan Tony famously doesn’t look where he’s shooting when he’s taking penalties so they just said that that’s what he does in his whole life basketball Connect Four reading a book playing darts never looking and uh that’s pretty rad because I and Tony I don’t know who would do that I mean I could never not look where I was shooting what a beast and then this was uh the Spain coach Luis De leonte said asked if it would be better for football if Spain beat England in the final after beating France given the criticism of the style he said all we do is try and be strong in our idea pretty safe All Things Considered but he didn’t want to touch that no so so here’s the question out of that who do you think Spain would rather face between the nether and englands England you think so yeah yeah for sure I think um Netherlands have a more technical type of Team where it kind of actually similarly matches almost Spain’s style of play um great Midfield play as well where England’s now Midfield has improved uh especially with the likes of Mayu but uh they haven’t figured it out yet where I do think that Netherlands has it more figured it out which would be uh more of a challenge for a Spanish Midfield interesting okay Wes same question to you who do you think Spain would rather face yeah same answer England I think with what Spain possessed how they can attack and get down the sides England’s defense has been good but it’ be a big big test against the Spanish defense and Spanish attack I mean uh and the way they keep the ball and move it technically much better against the Dutch if they did face them I think with the Dutch you get them hot or cold you know if they’re on fire they can be a true test to anybody if you get them cold they’re beatable uh but I think they’ll rather definitely face England all right well let us know in the comments what you think hit us up at Fox soccer or right now in the comments or in the chat who do you think Spain would rather face between the Dutch and the English big questions I agree with you I think they’d rather face England I think they would be probably a little bit more fluid once they broke down that pressure I think they’d get some chances and then you have those talented Wingers and Nico Williams and Lin Maul I’m just saying all right let’s do some Coach Jimmy time I wish I had my hat and whistle but I don’t we’re going to get into the starting 11 UEA Euro 2024 England versus the Swift now we’re going to talk about them in particular because they have struggled on the attacking side of the ball in this particular game they elected to do something they hadn’t done all tournament which was play a back three okay ezri conza came in for Mari who is out suspended and then Kieran tripier was on the left side and then bayas Saka was on the right now that did end up playing out when they switched a little bit more of a four and chpp dropped back in or chpp played out white here Saka did play out a little bit on the left as well then you have Dean Ry and Mayu in the middle Jude and Phil foden who’s been very quiet this particular tournament and then Harry Kane up top and and when you get into their average starting position you’re going to end up seeing that they’re a little bit deep if you remember coach Jimmy yesterday and you better remember that means you’re watching Fox Soccer now all the time but Spain all their players were up high really high and just controlled a lot of the ball and even even who they played yesterday or France France was even a little bit higher with their average starting position when you see England they’re pretty dropped up off and and that I find to be really interesting and they are one of the worst attacking teams that are that have got to the quarterfinals and throughout the tournament their XG is really low their their the shots that they take are the worst in the whole tournament and that has to change so they have to figure out ways to create space and really just get a little bit higher up the ball uh excuse me higher up the field but let’s take a look at the average positions for their opponent today the Netherlands you can see here that the big this is Cody gako who is tied for the Golden Boot race in this tournament and Kyle Walker is a player who usually plays the right back spot so he’ll be match up with him completely but Kyle Walker Kyle Walker likes to get high up the field so this could be an area where the Dutch Can exploit they’re not as high up the field as we saw with Spain Spains is ridiculous their players are pretty much near the corner of the box as an average starting position but I like the balance here for the Dutch team a little bit more connected I just would want to see if I was England Harry Kane to be a little bit higher here they have Memphis to pie and Cody backos out here here and then Javi Simon likes to pick up different areas here Javi Simon is leading the golden excuse me the Golden Boot race for assist he’s actually leading the tournament in assists alongside Danny ELO so yeah it’s going to be a pretty good game I want to throw it back over to Wes and Melly Wes I’m going to go with you first where do you think the English are most vulnerable when you kind of see what’s what you’re seeing here from the Dutch yeah I think with the England shape uh Gareth likes to play a cautious game uh so you’ll see obviously on the other map the defense was pretty uh pretty yeah is pretty far back uh Midfield is pretty tight together forwards are pretty tight together it’s a solid shape hard to break down where the Dutch you can see gapco in particular quite high and wide so I think in this game they definitely have to address that the right back which is walker uh I know they’re playing about three but he’ be on the right side he’ll have to and I think in the last game they played a cautious shape you know the B three stayed in their shape and they’ll have to stay like that in this this game definitely uh and be just be aware of Gap CO’s threats because he’s been on fire all this tournament and yeah Simon’s in the middle they have to be cautious of him so deand and Mayo will have to keep an eye on that but yeah like you said Jimmy it’ be good to see Harry Kane more forward uh if possible because he he has that he’s so good he’s probably one of the best passing number Nines in the world world when he drops into that space and then makes those passes to to the Wingers that are running forward well he likes to come deep and link up the the play but good if the Y players could you know give the team the option in behind stretch them a little bit give the Dutch something different to think about so it’ be interesting how they they approach this game yeah it’s going to be interesting where Saka and foden and them set up because foden seems to go a little bit Central all right let’s take a look at the starting 11 for the Three Lions who is Gareth Southgate going to roll out in this game we saw the lineup they had in the last one against the Swiss only one change and they’re continuing to go with this back three hybrid back four maybe a fluid even back four to a certain sense but Mark gahi who was suspended for the last one comes back in for cona everything else Remains the Same so G Southgate pretty stubborn and not making too many changes even though we’ve seen some Super Subs like Cole Palmer in particular West really step up and and play well when he comes onto the field but Dar Southgate staying true to his guys who stands out for yeah Kobe Mayu he’s 19 Center Midfield for Man United first on the scene halfway through last season dazzled with his performances he was 18 when he burst on the scene uh he’s got seven CL caps for England he didn’t start the tournament gar was reluctant to play him which is bit strange because we had a Midfield problem who was going to go in there a lot of people want to Manu in there because he’s a natural player but he played Trent which is you know he can play there but he can play right but but since he’s gone in he’s been tremendous St I came across his cross was uh 90% 96% pass accuracy which is the best of any midfielder at Euros since op to records began so 133 passes 138 was completed so this player you know he’s he’s a star in the making he’s been fantastic so far in this tournament when he’s started and played and I think he’ll shine again today you know what I love about this tournament is that the Young players are starting to take over the old guys you’re out the young players starting to come in and make a big difference and be pivotal for the respective teams all right I’m going to talk about the goalkeeper Jordan pford I think he’s going to have to have a big game today and he’s only given up three goals so far in this tournament that’s the third fewest of all the quarterfinalists and those three goals if you remember were against Ivon shrz and then yoland was the only goal he gave up in the group stages that was from like 40 yards out probably the best goal that yand will ever score and then you had Bri Lolo all three of those goals I don’t believe he had any involvement in right there’s nothing else he could have done a little bit better so he’s making the saves that he should make and that has to continue plus you want him to make maybe one or two more to to give England a chance to get a result and then he made one penalty save as well against Switzerland so he’s really been doing it in all areas and if that continues then you always have a chance when you have a hot goalkeeper milie how about you my gu is said number 10 Jude Bellingham who else right who else as he saids after he scored that heck of a bicycle kick um look this Real Madrid player was La League got player of the season this past season 21 years old in these five matches at the Euros he scored two goals and especially not only that one against um believe it was Slovakia but the bicycle kick I just think names everything uh this is what has been I think the issue and you mentioned it before Jimmy up on the board is that Harry Kane was sitting so deep so it actually didn’t allow Bellingham to have enough space especially going into this into this tournament now I think they’ve been able to figure it out a little bit more in the last match but I think he needs to have the ball at his feet because he has such quite great vision uh he’s creative he loves to link up play whether it’s Phil F in there or harri Kane up top and then the outside backs how they can you know get in and make crosses because like we’ve seen whether it was on set pieces or Corner kicks or crosses in he’s really great in the air as well so a just allaround incredible player at 21 years old yeah I love that he is fantastic and I’m excited to see how he performs if Harry Kane drops in the Midfield somebody’s got to run in behind him you have to create some depth if you’re going to get past this Dutch team and speaking of the Dutch team let’s get into their starting 11 who is Ronald kumman going to roll out in this game does he make any changes from the team that started against turkey a in the previous round they were down in that game if you remember and they scored two goals to come back and he does end up making one change Daniel Mullen is actually going to start on the right side instead of Steve Bergin Melly I’m coming back to you this Dutch team who stands out shavey Simon the number seven in the Midfield he’s a PSG player actually was on loan at RB leig this past season eight goals and 11 assists there he floats as a as a number 10 on this team and actually Ronald Coleman throughout this tournament was trying to figure out what position suits him best was it out the wing is it in the Midfield and the number 10 role for him has really been able to elevate his game because he’s just so brilliant on the ball uh the amount of passes that he completes and then as as the take on and the 1 V ones his dribbling skills look notably High 84 Bundesliga take on in this last season so that just shows how great he is just on the ball and then defensively is why he gets his work shift in as well and he’s tied with lein Maul for the most assists at this year row so that’s also a great point to note yeah he’s been fantastic when he’s got his minutes he didn’t start one game it was against Austria and they put him in after 30 minutes because they were struggling so bad without him all right I’m going to talk about one of the players who’s up for the Golden Boot right now he’s tied with four others with three goals Cody gakpo who’s been fantastic he’s only one of three Dutch players that have scored three or more goals in two competitions the World Cup and the Euros the last player to do it was Dennis bur Camp that’s pretty good company because Dennis bur Camp was world class and so Cody gako he really steps up in these particular moments he he seems to want to put his team on his back when they need it most and we could argue he should have four he actually caused that own goal by turkey a in the last round he was at the back post he just didn’t get that last touch on it so we can argue that uh he’s right there in the mix and he’s going to be dangerous once again it’s going to be a great match up to see how he performs against this english team and how about you s I’m going to get Memphis to P love the headband I got plenty of time for the headband is great yeah Memphis dep Pie 30 play center forward for the Netherlands can play wide or attacking midfielder got 46 goals and 97 caps for the Dutch which is almost one and two so know his way to the goal uh he’s play for some big teams Man United Barcelona uh Leon currently no Club he Milan’s interested in him he’s a player that’s a tremendous talent but he’s You could argue he’s never reached that Pinnacle um but on his day he’s you know Unstoppable he’s a key player for the Dutch he’s had an okay tournament but he could step up at any time so he’s a threat for the Dutch definitely all right Memphis depay love that shot will he step up in the biggest moment for his team today all right let’s do some picks I’m going to go first and even though I think the Dutch maybe should do it the England team is to find a way this is what they’ve been doing this whole tournament I don’t think it’s going to change here in the semi-final so I’ve got England to win one Z how about you Mellie oh I like that uh I’m going one-1 tie throughout the entirety of the match I think you know uh Netherlands has scored nine goals so far in this tournament but England’s defense is solid so it’s a one-1 draw and then overtime pigford’s going to come up great and England is going to win on Wow back toback pen wins okay how about us W yeah it’s going to in normal time it’s going to be 1-1 uh in extra time England will Nick it again 21 just like they did against Slovakia exactly wow we all have England winning look at us wow wow I don’t know if that’s a reverse Jinx for the Dutch or not we’ll have to wait and see reminder there is opportunity for you to watch the first five minutes of the game right here so keep it here and then we’ll join you afterwards because we can’t wait to break down this game and obviously preview some of the fun stuff for Copa America as well but now at this very moment we’re going to throw you over to Ian dark and Lon Donovan for the call of this game The Last semi-final year 2024 ticket to the final is coming up enjoy the game we’ll see you afterwards and one of Europe’s Most atmospheric stadiums England and the Netherlands meeting for a place in the European Championship final against Spain on Sunday the Netherlands recalling Winger donielle Marlon to play on his home ground in Dortmund where he scored 20 goals that means Steven ber drops to the bench maybe with a potential shootout in mind Bergin has a 100% record from the spot five of this team are past or present English Premier League players England bring back Defender Mark gahi now that he’s free from suspension which means that ezri cona returns to the bench that is the only change Harry Kane scored a hattrick here on his last visit with Bayern Munich Jude Bellingham returns to the stadium where he starred for brucia Dortmund absolutely fantastic atmosphere it always is in Dortmund it’s extra special here semi-final of the Euros dortmund’s famous yellow wall has been converted to an orange wall I’d say the England fans are outnumbered probably 3 to one because we are only some 60 miles from the Dutch border all roads have been clogged up we had to walk Pro probably the last mile to the stadium couldn’t get near the place of course the Netherlands wearing their famous orange England in their equally famous white looking to make the final of the Euros for the second time running England Netherlands the 1988 Champions and on that run that year in Germany Marco van Baston got a hattick against England in a 3-1 win it’s the first time these two famous footballing Nations have met in a tournament knockout tie three previous ones in group games the R feed it wide to Denzel dumph and Evans have been comeback Kings and England to really looking to get Marlin in behind but the flag goes up to stop him what an atmosphere here Landon with the crowd so tight into the pitch it’s such a Trea in to be in this stadium and see it converted like you said from yellow to mostly orange sprinkled with a decent amount of white you just wonder if this game will look a lot more like a Premier League game with the number of players familiar with that League and the pace hopefully will match it you know Kubin did manage in England Southampton and Everton and he has a bit of a history with England maybe more that a little bit later on as Walker looks to skip past GPO he’s probably may know the youngest ever England semi-finalist in a big tournament 19 years of age I just wonder if this might feel a bit like a Premier League game with so many of the players either playing in it now or in the past they know each other pretty well well the environment I you know as I was saying the environment feels like it it rained quite a bit before the game so The Field’s wet the crowd will certainly push these players on so yeah it could look and feel a lot more like that Phil foden certainly didn’t need to water this surface the elements did that all right Declan rice had a terrific tournament really for England the amount of ground he covers in that Midfield absolutely vital Fen hustled out of it by Shon England fans they might be outnumbered they’re making a lot of noise behind the goal England are attacking in the first half right to Lay It Forward here Harry Kane looks to lat onto it but defy was in the way this is the latest episode in many battles of course between Virgil Van djk and Harry Kane one of the most famous when Liverpool beat spurs in a Champions League final here come the Netherlands first attack and just for a moment there I wonder whether Marlon was going to get a sight of goal in his home stadium this is almost the highest I’ve seen England press in this tournament and the Netherlands with three or four passes just pick them apart you wonder now having been hurt like that if england might back off a little but they were very aggressive aggressive more aggressive than I’ve seen it’s Bellingham foden ahead of him making a run into the penalty area Kane now Saka scored that big goal against Switzerland towards the far post the Netherlands did concede like that with a similar ball against tury Fen seing a lot of the ball early on trip here on that left hand side is offside his second visit to this Stadium by the way in a matter of months trip here he was with Newcastle in the Champions League here they lost 2-0 that night see again the benefit of England playing the back three in with wing back suck on this side as he clipped the ball in here and trippier arriving at the back post to give them another number in the Box it’s been very useful for them in the last couple games the Netherlands have scored nearly double the amount of goals that England have scored in the tournament so far 9 to5 England have conceded a couple fewer mind you so one of the questions I had was how are England going to play this front three is la oh

Gol Xavi
Ok
So Kane kicks a Dutch player, hurts himself, cries on the ground (like he always does), then gets a penalty. Sad. It would be nice if England actually earned a win during this tournament.
England scored
I hope the final is English or Spanish
lets go england.
