Portugal will take on France in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Friday, looking to reach the last four at a European Championship for the fifth time in seven tournaments.
The match in Hamburg is a repeat of the Euro 2016 final, in which Portugal beat hosts France in extra-time to clinch the country’s maiden title in a major international football tournament.
Friday’s match will pit two of world football’s biggest superstars against each other, although Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo and his France counterpart Kylian Mbappe have both struggled to find their best form at Euro 2024.
Ronaldo missed a penalty against Slovenia in the round of 16 and has yet to score in the tournament – the 39-year-old was on target in the ensuing shoot-out though – while Mbappe’s only goal in France’s first four matches in Germany came from the spot in a group stage draw with Poland.
