The United States started off strong and dominated the first half, and it led to Christian Pulisic delivering a beautiful through ball to Timothy Weah who delivered a beautiful finish.
However, at half time the United States put their foot off the petal, and Wales started dominating the second half. Zimmerman’s horrific challenge on Gareth Bale led to a penalty for Wales, and Gareth Bale smashed the penalty in the top right corner. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Zimmerman 🤡
World Cup is fixed because no one in their right mind is making that challenge
Zimmerman sold
That’s a bad take. Watch the replay. Ball is coming in, Walker’s right leg is already going for the ball. He is committed and Bale isn’t even in front of him. Bale steps in front, almost like a box out move in basketball. I agree it’s a penalty, but I don’t think it was sloppy or stupid play from Walker. Just bad timing. Bale was coming from his blind side.
Bad tackle
Why still photos instead of video? Can't seem to find the video of this play anywhere.
Bale is old ??? … incredible stupidity !!!
Zimmerman should be banned to play the next games
Wrong time wrong place but it's a pen ig.
$$$$$$$$
bale flopped
Best stupid dumb tackle of football history! The next match Zimmerman won’t play!I’m for real
Filthy Yank and near the end another dirty tackle on Bale who could have chipped the goalie, if the USA play like this against England they’ll get it back 10 fold
How much did Zimmermann get paid?
U.S. Soccer is pay to play and the culture is more about familiar convention and impressing the incompetent. FOCUS ON THE GAME is not realistic in our culture.
If my IQ is above the top 1% how am I going to get promoted from a group with lower IQ's? It all going to be based on incompetent opinions, skills, and stats.
opinions are like ass holes, they give Gareth Bail penalty kicks for no reason. skills tell you nothing about a players where-with-all through a tournament or different games. Stats can change a lot when you get a different coach or system or when roster personnel around you changes etc. real talent is recognized by talent and experience, not by impressing a general group or a pay to play system.
Zimmerman was trying to impress incompetent low IQ's with his nifty tackling skill and did not possess the where-with-all to understand that this was not the moment or place to pick up a stat for himself.
Zimmerman didn't see Bale until he'd already lunged for the ball. Bale stepped in with the sole purpose of getting the foul. It was crafty by Bale and wreckless by Zimmerman. But it's very clear that Zimmerman did not see Bale until after he committed.
I watched this live, and saw the replay in slo-mo. Zimmerman was first to the ball and Bale jumped between his legs with one of his legs. Refs and VAR need to have seen this type of play before. No penalty at all. Bale's sole intention was to hope for a penalty call.
Zimmerman should be fired 😊
The US should bring back Omar Gonzalez. He was very good in 2014
Stop with the hating on Zimmerman! Watch the whole play: The missed U.S tackle left Zimmerman no choice but to go after the ball – Bale was about to receive a cross right in front of the U.S goal! Both Bale and Zimmerman were clearly going for the ball, which required Bale to turn around . Zimmerman prevented Bale from taking a point-blank shot directly in front of the goal. The higher-percentage gamble was to risk the penalty shot. With the missed U.S tackle, Zimmerman had to make an instant choice . If the penalty had been saved, everyone would be raving about the daring risk Zimmerman took to save a near-certain goal by Bale.
Steve Bartman of US soccer. Ruined the US’s chances to advance, ruined 4yrs of work to build this team, and even worse continued to make the US a clumsy laughing stock of soccer instead of the US being taken seriously with a 1-0 clean sheet win.
Bale sold that foul. Zimmerman is playing the ball and is closer to the ball. Bale tied up their legs and never went for the ball. Great sell to get a PK. He’s a smart player. Zimmerman was in no man’s land when he started to slide and clear the ball. Judgement call by the ref. As a coach, I always have my players go after the ball and not the player. Bale knew what he was doing. He got his PK
If the US doesn’t qualify then they can blame Zimmerman !!
Nice cuts but we saw the game. Bad click bait.
bale stepped over him if you watched it fully, he was going for the ball, bale put his leg over zimmerman
I agree. It was a ridiculous tackle. Nowadays you can't even breathe on another player, so what he is thinking with an unnecessary tackle like this from behind I don't know.
