If your budget is £50 mil, then find somebody with a release clause less than that. Simple as that.
He will definitely be better than Maguire and Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

De ligt and Martinez in defense would put fear in the heart of any attackers. De ligt is a warrior, he wears his heart on his sleeve and will always give his life for our club
if Bayern really want to move De Ligt, i think theyd settle for 40m and i could see him taking a drop in wages to around 215k a week in order to go somewhere where he would be a main player

Varane was a such a great signing but unfortunately only lasted 2 Seasons. I'm not sure Bayern would sell unless there were some injury/fitness concerns.

De Light not best in class for that price considering he is injury prone, too expensive and demands high wages. United can do better at that price

I know I am being unrealistic but I think we ought to spend out of the box and plan to do this transfer over two years. We probably are not going to be challenging for the title this year so let's build over two years with really quality players. Meanwhile, keep bringing the youth through…like Kambwala.

Why would they sell him if he's that good? Wages too expensive + lengthy injuries = bad value for money and UTD had far to much of that last season.

Given that the appeal for Todibo could well go past the transfer window, I’m more than happy with signing De Ligt. It hasn’t gone gangbusters for him since leaving Ajax, but he’s still 24 and is still a good upgrade on what we currently have. I’m glad that INEOS is looking to move quickly and pivot when needed

I guess De ligt can be bought for around 50m. The problem is his salary and not the valuation. I like De ligt and he would be an upgrade for sure.
I Think De Ligt can be a really good signing with his leadership qualities together with Licha’s. He is a great defender and has the potential to become one of the best in the game in my opinion. He has already played with ETH before and shown he can play his system in a great team but his injury record is a concerning factor but if United can negotiate a “cheapish” deal and he’s wages going down I would think this would be a great move for us.
De Ligt isn’t “a” former Ajax player, he is THE former Ajax player … would eat our whole spending budget.

He hasn't been in the greatest form since he joined Bayern. At Juve though he looked like a new leader in the making and his actual defending improved alot though there wasnt much "footballing" going on for him, which was down to tactics but i do feel it stunted his growth a bit on that side.
i dont see any reason why he couldnt become great, its just an issue of whether Man United is in the position to spend big on multiple players. It would be a mistake if de Ligt ends up being the biggest/expensive signing.
CB with no obvious injury record should be our main priority now. Maybe later at last 2 weeks into closing transfer period, we could relook into this option. Should take lesson from last season.
