Gregg Berhalter accidentally unleashed a storm when comments leaked about why Rio Reyna didn’t play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He should’ve seen it coming, and it could have been prevented by telling the truth.
Reyna responded on Instagram, which set off another round of stories as the full picture came into view. On Monday’s “Hoffman Show,” I explained why this is entirely Berhalter’s fault, even if all parties involved could behave better.
Plus, why it’s important that this information came out and didn’t stay “in the team” like all parties claimed to have wanted.

Gregg ~ BE GONE!
Exactly, softie….catching feelings with that weak USA mindset of just being content with advancing and not trying to win the whole dang thing…..Get Berhalter outta here!!
Why be so rigid that you go into a tournament already deciding that somebody will have a "limited role", wouldn't the course of the tournament determine that?!!! What an idiot!
It would be surprising if Berhalter still commanded the respect or trust in the locker room he once had after this. It's hard to not think about the rift this causes between Reyna and himself. Apart from being a mediocre tactician who got owned by Van Gaal, the man-management and decision-making skills with this manager seems to be lacking as well. For things to go smoother for 2026, it's best if someone else take the helm. Too much drama for someone so mediocre. Also, after we got eliminated, Gio scored in a Dortmund friendly: central, outside the box, keeper had no chance. As a lot of fans, including Gio had stated, central mid is where he is most comfortable. We lacked creativity in our offense because a playmaker is usually needed for that to happen, which is exactly what happened when Reyna came on, there were more chances at goal. Why Ferreira even started is mind boggling. And Gregg kept playing Musah and Mckennie, two box-to-box mids who are neither playmakers, and did so until they were fatigued in the Netherlands game. And only when we were 2 goals down, was Reyna subbed in. It doesn't get anymore surreal than this. And this is the coach that will lead us to a deep run in 2026?
Berhalter has as much imagination as a slug. Was like that as a player & is like that as a coach….
Most honest title I have seen yet. You get a follow sir. Fook Gregg.
