Today was glaringly obvious Southgate has no backbone or tactical knowledge. There just isn't any balance or fluidity in this England team. Every tournament there seems to be a familiar pattern emerging, where England can't overcome a psychological barrier. Always struggling to find a correct balance in the midfield

You've got star players, performed throughout this season. Just dissappinted about england tactical. We just want a more creative & wonderful football.
Kelvin Philips can’t even get in the West Ham team and he’s got 2 midfielders who has had great seasons in maino and Wharton who can play midfield on the bench playing a right back as a number 6 who can’t defend and isn’t allowed to go forward 😂

I wonder if there’s ever been another example of a nations chances of success improving by the manager leaving mid-tournament? This is all so frustrating. I’m sure he’s a nice bloke, and yes hes done a decent job getting the players to be mates, but despite having an embarrassment of riches at his disposal, we’re no closer to winning anything than we were when he arrived.
How many friendlies have we played in the last 2 years where he had chance to experiment? And in how many of those did he actually experiment? Seriously, get him out. Any half decent coach could do a better job than this

I still say that pitch is a nightmare, partly I think this ruined the natural motion of the game. Kyle Walker found out very quickly that his usual playstyle might not suit the pitch conditions. Overall they should have done better. They looks flat and tired. Lets hope this is just a wobble before they find there real rhythm

Genuinely criminal that Wharton isn’t getting played, he’s exactly what we’re missing. I’m not even a palace fan and can’t claim I’ve watched every palace game but you could see from his brief cameo v Bosnia (albeit against lesser opposition) that we don’t have a midfielder like him. Our CB’s are far too slow on the ball and are sat so deep that it’s just getting recycled between them and the full backs, which then eventually goes to Pickford who kicks it long and we lose possession. If you stick Wharton in there, you completely eliminate the need for the Cb’s to be fast, he is that someone who is completely comfortable receiving the ball with his back to the opposition and is almost on the half turn as soon as he gets it. Yes, Trent’s passing is fantastic aswell but he’s looked very uncomfortable receiving the ball with his back to the opposition and so has Rice. In fact, we’ve nearly conceded silly goals a few times because of it. You stick wharton in there who is comfortable receiving it with his back to goal, his first thought being to turn and pick out a pass, it completely changes the tempo of our game. The cb’s will sit higher naturally and our full backs would push further on. We’re crying out for that Spanish type midfielder or even Kroos type player. You NEED that middle man who everyone bounces off. People may laugh at this comment but he is him and I wish Gareth would give him a chance.
Trent must play as lb and his position in no. 6 is replace by either Gallagher or Mainoo 😏.
