Euro 2024: Jude Bellingham stars as England win 1-0 against Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener

we are going to start with the Von gson kirken Jude Bellingham scoring the only goal as England beat Serbia to get the Euro 2024 campaign off to a winning start we spoke earlier before the break Lee about the fact that it was a game of two halves wasn’t the first half England were really good dominated second half it was all hands to the pump overall though would you say it was a pretty impressive first performance first game or or was it a bit nervy yeah I mean it it was always going to be nervy being the first game obviously there’s lots of expectation on on England isn’t there being the favorites coming into the tournament so you know getting that three points um at times it wasn’t pretty I must admit particularly the second half but you know there’s lots that you have to like about the performance because first half they they they had plenty of the ball they had control of the game um second half they had to show character belief defend really well uh which was the big highlight of of our Squad and the and the setup and and what we have back there so credit to the back line really to be honest trippier playing out of position uh you get Gaye coming in at Center half as well where you know all eyes were on what he was going to produce but I I thought they were brilliant they stopped Seria at source for having good possession of play uh but not really allowing them to have much attempts at goal uh the one attempt which uh valovich made um pford was called upon and made a brilliant save so you know credit to the back five I’ll throw pford in there so it was a game of of two halfes where we had to dig deep and we know that we have quality uh in the game but I think you go and get that second goal and I think the game can completely pans out differently you mentioned there you know it was a really good defensive performance wasn’t it and a lot of people were questioning England’s defense at the start of of this tournament gay in particular was really good so was the difference between the two sides really when it came down to it won Jude Bellingham yeah I mean Bellingham was was fantastic even in the second half you know the the things he did uh to try and relieve pressure the times he got forward first half you know you just think that such a young man um you know it just feels like he’s been on the stage for for quite some time he is unbelievable player ability you know his cleverness it’s just absolutely remarkable of someone of his age that he produces them performance and that caliber of performance um you know he’s a he’s a leader he really is and he proved that again this evening with a Super Header um and he’s arriving into the box he’s joining in with Harry Kane he’s playing in that role that he does for Real Madrid and he was remarkable first half in particular you know he was brilliant but he was he was my uh player of the match for sure for England and also a lot of England’s threat particularly in the first half came down the right didn’t it but B saaka was a doubt over him because he he picked up an injury towards the end of the Premier League season you know some people were saying well maybe we should have Cole Palmer in there somehow ahead of sacka but he certainly looked potent in that first half he did he did and as you said I think you know not being probably his full fitness and and questions whether he was going to be available but pablovich he gave a real Tor time in the first half it it was flip reversal actually in the second and that’s where pablovich maybe got forward a bit more which made sacka have to drop back and defend a little bit more being in a deeper position where in the first half he was high he was Advanced he was in One V one jws so you know that was a different role for for sacka but you know that he’s capable of causing any fullback problem um and he did that in the first half he got taken off towards the the the back end of the second half with Jared bone come on and and showed that he’s more than capable of filling the boots of sacka it’s great that we’ve got that strength in depth to bring them players on and have that bit more energy even Conor gallaga know bringing that energy in Midfield we know he runs around we know he he gets fouls he did he probably had five or six fouls when he came on just because his his energy of getting away from players and that’s why I think the big shout was you know not taking Jack them are the times in the game where you might need a Jack greish to relieve pressure take it into the corner get the fouls and and that’s what Conor Gallagher did when he came on so credit to to the subs that came on too so after that are you more or less confident that England they going to go far in this Euros I’m I’m confident and I have been since day that I I felt that coming into the tournament we we were going to be strong this performance was a a massive massive three points it’s a brilliant platform to build off it’s a clean sheet we’ got three points on the board the other game obviously was a draw it’s gone in our favor and I still feel there’s a lot more to come from this England squad I really do you know we’ve got as I said we got players who can come in and fill different roles Denmark’s going to be a tough game but I I’m so confident this tournament that we will get something and you’re going to watch the last couple of group games in the sun aren’t you yeah maybe yes I’m going to go and watch the golf this evening though yeah oh yeah watch that first I’m very jealous of your town anyway
