  1. Don't see the big deal, our royal family has German heritage, maybe a German manager knows the solution to see big games through! GS has taken England as far as he can go, decent overall but game management will always be his flaw. That said Kane did let us down, can't hide from that.

  2. Under Southgate, England has won ONLY 4 games against FIFA top 10 rated teams. Let that sink in. He has a 16.7% win percentage. If that was the case for any top 6 EPL team, the manager would be sacked far before the stats even got that bad. SMH

  3. Tuchel would be great. We haven’t played attacking football since World Cup 98. Tuchel would bring ball possession football and creativity in our attacking game.
    Sven, Capello, Allardyce, Hodgson and Southgate were/are content to play park the bus football.

  4. How about …..Graeme Souness! He talks a good game and has won it ALL as a player. Wasn’t a bad manager. Never managed a top team capable of winning the English League but neither did Southgate.

    He would give them the mentality of winners.

  5. Kane has played in more big games for England than for his club…

    Spurs = No pressure
    Spurs = Losing is OK

    How can you call a loser your talisman, when even Spurs' best run in the CL came when they didn't have Kane in any legs of the QF or SF?

  6. Personal opinion, but I can't get on board with foreign managers for international teams. It didn't work for Sven, didn't work for Capello, didn't work for Roberto Martinez etc. They don't have the passion for the nation that's required to manage them in my opinion and I doubt they'll resonate with the players like a native manager would.

  7. The only players in that English team including the manager that has won/runners-up anything of significance outside of England are Henderson and Trent. The rest of the players were being so overhyped, when the bubble burst everyone is now emotional. Southgate did his job – got an overhyped team into the global top 10, getting them into the top 4 is beyond his god given abilities. Tuchel IN – he is a certified winner.

  8. Proactive would be putting the best passer of the ball, Trent Alexander Arnold on 20 minutes before the end. From 70-79 minutes on the clock France came back into it and then scored. Had Trent came on 70 minutes his pace and crossing ability would have stopped France gaining momentum in those 10 minutes and could have swung the game in England’s favour.

  9. I use to think the guys who landed the England job were super experienced top managers who have one something, why was Gareth even considered in the first place? Because he had the young lot? He never ever had the credentials and punched way above his weight but come on, Gareth was never gonna win anything. He was no way ready. Would he be successful at one of the top 4 in the prem? It never made sense to me. I can only think of a Jose who can take that job no else is ready, Klop perhaps but Gareth? What a joke of an appointment.

  10. England are currently the top scorers in this World Cup and Southgate has actually outscored every other English manager in World cups by at least 2:1. Progress has been made, maybe not fast enough for the greedy and reactionary English public. A young German team regularly got to the business end of tournaments between 2006-2014 and eventually won. Have patience, or we could quite easily go back to the limp and depressing performances of the pre-Southgate era.

  11. People think Southgate's football is too negative and they don't like it when he plays 5 at the back with two holding midfielders (which he hasn't done this tournament) but want to replace him with Thomas Tuchel…. who plays negative football 5 at the back with two holding midfielders. Unbelievable.

  12. I'd bite Tuchel's hand off.

    Three tournaments is enough for Southgate. He seems like nice chap, but he doesn't have that 'it' factor and his approach to substitutions is frankly laughable. He also doesn't seem to grasp when a game is getting away from him or when it is there for the taking. His choice of players is also questionable.

    How anyone can want him to stay on at this point is absolutely insane to me.

    Here's a response for the folk saying "but he's German". Shut your remedial mouths. He is the best we're going to get, a Champions League winner, and this isn't 1939 for fucks sake.

    That West Ham fan makes me be embarrassed to be an Hammer. "Course we are!" No mate, you're a smooth brain.

  13. England manager should be English good bad or indifferent. There are enough English managers managing in the leagues. The Canadian coach is English look what he’s done as an international manager for their women and men.

  14. Short memories. On the pitch Southgate turned England into a team that passes out from the back. For multiple games they struggled to adapt, but ultimately they did it, and now they are as comfortable as any team in that regard. England are now a far better and a more consistent team on the pitch than under any of Southgate's immediate predecessors. England have reached a final, semi and quarter final under Southgate – unlike Italy and Germany, for instance. Much of the commentary here is infantile.

  15. The caller is right. Goldstein is being deliberately obtuse. We are improving. We played better this world cup than we did in the last world cup and euros. Yes we went out earlier then we did in both of those competitions but we also came up against a top team earlier on. Under Southgate we have evolved from tournament to tournament. We played good football this tournament in a progressive 433 formation.

  16. There’s a reason England don’t win anything overrated players and daft expectations, France have players on the bench that would start for England

  17. Deschamp took a hopeless french team in 2012, brought young talents and new strategies. Got to QF in 2014 WC, to the final in 2016, then won the 2018 WC. I think Southgate is still a work in progress with England. Give him some time and he’ll win a major tournament.

  18. Southgate has proven he cannot identify who has played well or who was the best player on the pitch. Let's ignore all the history or w/e, reality is that he took off the best player off the pitch. Like Tite who took off Vinicius who was involved in 5 of the 7 goals & Richarlson who was on fire.
    You don't have to be a genius or have a lot of footballing experience to see when a manager sabotages your team/club/nation. Saka was by far the best player, he was unstoppable & even me, as a Real Madrid fan made fun of Arsenal fans hyping up their players… was like "wow, this player has potential to be one of the best players in his position".
