This will never happen but I’d love us to try it and hear me out. Martinez as our CDM behind kobbie and Bruno.
He’s terrific in CB, my favourite CB by far but his quality on the ball, his scanning ability, short passes, long passes. I think he’d be a perfect CDM to balance us and then on the tiny chance someone has got round him, they’re not through on goal, they have two beasty CBs behind him in a few new purchases. If we got Branthwaite and the lad from Fulham on a free, that’s two huge ball playing CBs and DM covered for around £55m!
I really like him at CB but I think he has even more in his locker to be our midfield general too, could see him bossing the full pitch whilst protecting the defence all on a smart budget.

Special Special player. A very rare talent. The difference is enormous when he plays.
Some of the best cente.backs over last 40years have been below 6foot, Baresi,Cannavaro,Puyol and Licha.And yes they all had the same skill of making everyone play better.

Absolutely bang on. I’ve been saying it since his first game for us. You can see the confidence in players around him when he plays. De Gea thrived off it last season… he is a natural leader but we need 5/6 of them ion the starting 11 every week to be back competing for the big trophies

While I love Martinez as CB, I feel like he should be our new 6, he has great passing range, really press resistant, excellent tackling, great reading of the game, he could easily play single pivot if he needed to. I guess we do have a problem of not having any quality CB's instead of him, but I really feel like he would be like our Busquets, he would take that position really well and wouldn't have that height problem then.
If we had 3 players with the mentality and attitude of Martinez – irrespective of position – we would get top 4 as a starter
We got the best so far of Martinez when he was with Varane. I wish we could have found a way to keep Varane and hope we find an excellent replacement who will complement licha
