I dont care if your the best RB in the world, you cant play a RB at LB. It’s criminal at International level. When you have the choice a of an entire country, you have to take a NATURAL, LEFT FOOTED LB!
The only exception in the world for me is Cancelo.
It might sound wild and i know how good he is going forward obviously. But if i was Gareth id be having a word with Saka. Given how influential and attacking fullbacks are now, along with the absolute riches in attack that we have. You could easily go 343 and have Saka LWB and TAA RWB and still have a nice balance imo.
Have to give Southgate kudos for leaving out Rashford, Henderson & Phillips
Problem for pundits like merson is they still act like international football is the gold standard and it just isnt, club football is the elite level now
Kaveh made a good point about the 33-26 man squad cut. Southgate did some good man management
Wouldn't risk Shaw. I'd bring in the kid Tyreek. He wouldn't start, but would at least be a natural LB on the bench

Reece should go cuz hes very versatile. CB, RB, RWB can even play in midfield. Especially with shaw inured and no left backs, it will be better so we can shift to back 3 whether thats in game or from the start, gives walker a backup too. Reece and walker are very important players for england set up.
Shaw’s a LB not a RB
Reece James hasn't played much this season and after returning he's picked up red cards. That's a player not match fit. Trent was selected as a midfielder not defender.

England have a problem in LB and Rice is the only top quality CM.
If Foden must start (likely LW) the width has to come from the LB and only Shaw-who is injured ,provides width.
Branthwaite is the other left-footer but he is a CB.
TAA will have to partner Rice in the pivot if England must be proactive.
I dont see why Tyrick Mitchell couldn't just play there. I would rather have him there than an out of position (and out of form) Trippier there.

Gotta change to a back 3. 3-2-4-1. Solves alot. Get two defensive pivots supporting defence and can potentally have two 10's Jude/Foden in their prefered position.
