Forget his record, forget his style, forget his tactics. When it comes to managing blue chip clubs, especially Man Utd, the key prerequisites are, suave, charisma, stature and an ability to command a respect that borders on fear factor. And I’m not just describing Fergie here, think of all the great managers throughout history; Busby, Shankly, Pep, Clough, Lippi, Jose, Ancelotti, Cruyff, they’re all cut from the same cloth. You need that aura before you even start a conversation.
If I was Southgate I wouldn’t want to give up my cushy England job.
Next season Utd are going to be scrutinised like never before, whoever the manager is will need a good start to the season.
You don't have to convince me. From the first time I saw Southgate's name linked as manager, it was no way. I got the same rush of blood when they announced Moyes. You have to be kidding. So far not impressed with Ineos. Loads of talk. No way of doing most of it. Not in less than 20 years. Still mostly owned by Glazers. Nothing is likely to change. If they appoint Southgate it will be a joke. All these supposedly great sport brains would instantly loose any credibility. This current England squad is the best we have had in years. Given now that there aren't many English players in the English Premier league. Better system in 1966. And as you say won nothing. Playing for your country is totally different anyway. Many players at club level couldn't give a toss. Regular pay cheque. Turn out, sit on the bench, out injured. Same as a boring office job. But you might see that lift for country. Well you can hope. But Gareth Southgate. God help us.

He is too loyal to some players while being the opposite with others, say if Maguire got 10 own goals, gave away penalties he would still be the first name on the sheet but not with say for example evans
He has all the worst qualities of the worst united managers in recent memory. He persists with dated systems and tactics that don’t work and don’t suit the squad and in the face of rational deserved criticism he deflects blame and then doubles down due to his stubborn pragmatic cowardly nature. He is unable to solve problems of his own making that a competent manager would have addressed years ago, gets exposed massively against halfway decent opposition but he gets a free ride because the media and players love him, god only knows why.
