This has been an incredibly bad weekend as a Dutchie. Us being disqualified for Eurovision AND Viv leaving?? The universe hates me. But atleast we’re leaving behind a very nice Dutch legacy in North London

  3. The music really really doesn’t help. 7 years is a loooong loooong time in women football. I’m just glad I have been here since the start, she was THE best in the world for the 1st 3 years at Arsenal. I used to be proud of having her as our striker, she was Dennis for the women’s side, elegant, deadly and ice cold. All the best to Viv, hope she finds joy again wherever she ends up.

Woke up this morning convinced we would get this announcement today and I’ve still just had to shut myself in my room to have a little cry

  5. arsenal made a mistake. i hope jonas regrets it. Viv will come back even better and shes gonna beat the shit out of us whether she ends up at city or wherever else.

  6. This is just as sad as when they forced Mana out.

Seriously if next season doesn’t go off with a bang, Jonas needs to be gone.

  7. I will never forgive this.

Not offering her a contract after the last 2 years… absolute criminal.

Thanks her teammates at The Arsenal, Thanks the club, Thanks the fans. Not a word about the manager.

That sums it all up. #JonasOut

I first got into women’s football (specifically Arsenal) around the same time she was signed and she was one of the first women’s footballers I really became a fan for, watched all her club and international games, got her name on my shirt. We’re even the same age with two weeks between our birthdays! I feel like as a fan I’ve grown up watching her play, and watched her develop as a player and come out of her shell.

Obviously her ACL injury was devastating, and I think it’s fair to say that she hasn’t been at the same level but it’s still really early days recovery-wise. I think she still has a great career ahead of her and (as is often the case with ex-Arsenal players!) I’ll still be happy to see her on the pitch wherever she ends up now. I hope she’ll always remember her days at Arsenal with happiness, I know I will!

  10. Biggest fumble. My faith in Jonas has absolutely plummeted. How can you let go a player like that?

I think it’s the best decision for both the club and Miedema.

Our priority would be signing a new winger, new CB and a GK. Arsenal should also let Hurtig go as she’s consistently unavailable.

I feel torn because the idea of giving up on a player, especially a player as utterly brilliant as Miedema, due to struggles with her health and fitness, doesn’t at all sit right with me. Having been the best player at the club for so long, she deserves patience and support as she tries to return to a very high level of performance.

On the other hand, I do wonder if this is the best thing for her personally (even if sadly factors at Arsenal have obviously contributed to arriving at this place). It seemed pretty clear she was unconvinced about remaining at the club two years ago, and given how frustrating our season has been this year and the absence of a clear starting spot in the team, leaving Arsenal might be exactly what she needs.

Really hope she doesn’t sign for City. But I wish her the absolute best, both as a footballer and as a human.
