[Fabrizio Romano] Understand Jorginho’s new deal at Arsenal will be valid until June 2025, one more season. There will be no formal option to extend the contract. Arteta and Edu both really wanted Jorginho to stay, he’s more than happy to continue at Arsenal.

  1. Amazing deal for us. He must love it here to accept only one year, but this is great for us. Expect TP to go though

My papai. This is great news. What a great role model and leader he is both on and off the pitch.

A single year on top of his initial 18 month contract seems right, given that he didn’t play near enough to make the built-in one-year extension option on that deal active. Happy to have him around as a squad player.

It’s a nice bit of insurance given what we’ve had to deal with this season, with Partey being absent for 90% of it. Jorginho is a massive upgrade on Elneny in that vein, but we really need to sort out the future of this midfield this summer.

I wonder if this announcement means a midfield replacement is either put off for a year or becomes less urgent. Extending Jorginho and with another year of Partey’s contract to run no major decision needs to be made.

Therefore the major transfer funds go towards a striker in the summer.

In summer 2025 Edu and Arteta get their number one choice midfielder and by that point there should be more clarity on whether Partey has been extended or let go when his contract expires.

The decision will be whether to go for a star number 6 and push Rice forward or keep Rice in position and sign an 8.

  6. Does this mean Partey OUT in the summer?
I would rather Partey and strengthen the Mid with one more 8 or 6.

Happy about this. He gets to mentor the young gunners and also Rice gets to learn more about the CM role.

  8. Jorginho has been such an underrated signing. He came for 12m and he has been as professional as it’s gonna get. Fantastic player when the opposition suits his playstyle, good enough to do his job when it doesn’t. And on top of all that he’s smart and mature. Love the guy.

Well that’s Partey gone, as much as i love his playstyle and quality, it’s a black mark on the club that i would love to see gone
