Southgate tactically is not qualified for a top flight job and certainly not with the way he sets his teams upto play. The United fans would hate him for his playing style alone which is all about defensive loads of defenders and central midfielders. Thinking that Potter is not better than Southgate as a manager is absolutely ridiculous, Southgate is not even good enough to manage a top half of a championship club.
Even if England win the Euros, United fans won't suddenly accept Southgate is the man for their club. The general perception with England fans, not just Man United fans, will surely be that England won the Euros inspite of Southgate not because of him.
As a Liverpool fan though, I have to say Gareth Southgate is the PERFECT candidate for the Manchester United manager's position.
