[See comments] Chelsea’s release clause is said to be around 40 million euros. Clearly too much for Dortmund. Maatsen says about his future: “At this stage of my career, my main priority is to play a lot. That’s the most important thing for me. I have a contract with Chelsea, it’s a big club.

    Finishing the quote:

    > As I said, I’m not thinking about my future just yet. We’ll see what happens

    ——–
**Maatsen is a regular on the left sided at BVB**
    – The 21-year-old has quickly settled in at Dortmund and says he feels very much at home at Borussia.
    Maatsen said:
    > “The Bundesliga is a great stage for a young player to show his quality. For a young guy like me, it’s really important that the coach and the people in charge of a club as big as BVB give me the chance to shine,”
    – In England, young, talented players have a much harder time gaining a foothold.

    Maatsen said:
    >”You don’t see that so often in the Premier League. It’s a completely different league. It’s a completely different environment for young players there,” emphasises Maatsen, who has struggled with fluctuations in performance recently after a brilliant start.

**Maatsen at BVB beyond the summer?**
    – The Dutchman is on loan until the summer. But what happens after that?

    Maatsen answered:
    > “I don’t yet know what will happen in the summer. There will certainly be several options. What I can say is that I feel very comfortable in Dortmund and am very happy to be here at BVB. And of course I also feel that I am very welcome here,”

The same maatsen who’s been doing bits for them over there in Germany. Clearly too much at 40m in today’s market haha are they taking the piss or what?

That’s an absolute snip, they need to give their heads a shake muppets

  3. I’ve been wondering about this. I keep seeing people say £35m is cheap but for most clubs in Europe that’s not cheap for a fullback. I mean that would be Dortmund’s record signing.

  4. Given how close we are to breaching the PSR rules, he probably has to get sold. But if Poch gets sacked and we bring in a new manager who wants to play 3 at the back, Maatsen could have a future at Chelsea as a wingback. I don’t see him as physical enough to survive defensively in a 4 at the back

I think in the Prem, Ian can only excel in a back 3 where he carries less of the defensive burden. With an inside forward on the left like Nkunku I think he could really shine. With Palmer reflecting Nkunku’s role on the right and wing-back Gusto, Jackson could build up play through the middle and be surrounded by players who can actually score goals. Puts a lot of pressure on the midfield pivot though. Caicedo definitely fits there but I think Enzo and Gallagher both don’t really fit the other spot.

Hopefully Poch can get the sack and another manager uses Maatsen so that we don’t have to spend money on a LB this summer and can focus on a striker and CB

If that’s the case, then clearly, Dortmund never had any intention of signing him, so why negotiate it as part of his loan deal?

As much as I like to see good players stay at the club, I fear that this boy good news at all.

    1. It’s not great that Dortmund don’t value him at EUR 40m

    2. The 40m we were hoping to get for him is going up have to come from *somewhere* who will very likely be the much better player Conor Gallagher

  9. £35m is cheap. All teams around Europe would demand £50m for any of their players if PL teams wants them. But they’re penny pinching when they want our players? Lol

  10. SweeterStorm on

If we were in for a player like maatsen we would be quoted 60m. We need a player like him

  11. Reverse the teams and we’re easily demanded £60m. Other teams will be in for him. Unfortunately it looks like Poch doesn’t rate him as a LB 🤷🏻‍♂️

  12. Chase out Poch the clown and bring back this youngster. Chillwell is washed and Cucurella can’t be trusted. We can’t keep wasting money on signing LBs when we already have one.

  13. Wasn’t there a report that said we’re in the market for a LB? Well wtf for? Just play Maatsen.
