Duke fan here 💙 It was tough to watch Mitchell sometimes this year bc he’s so damn good but it felt like he was shy in moments where we needed him to assert himself. Would have a game where he got 17, 8, 5 only to follow it up with a dud the following game. Love mark, hate to see him leave, but he was supposed to be in the NBA mock drafts at this point. I think Roach needs to go. We have nothing but great guards to choose from and him being on the roster just muddies up everything. Not a great scorer and not a great ball handler/playmaker. I just don’t see the benefit other than “experience” which is good but not worth all the problems that come with him returning. We’ll see. Gotta be way better next year that’s all I know 💙
I hope roach leaves, we always try and depend on him as a primary ball handler when he’s clearly an off ball guard. That mixed with him being an absolute zero on defense (hence why we had to play a switching defense) is why I think we’d be better off without him. Seeing Duke continue to run pick and rolls with him this year almost made my head explode, he’s a weak ball handler after two or three dribbles, gets swallowed in the paint constantly, and has no pg iq whatsoever. Yeah, he hit a few shots for us in 22 but that was fool’s gold.
