England face reining champions France in a massive World Cup quarter final.

Gareth Southgate’s men are unbeaten in the tournament and have been in free scoring form with 12 goals in 4 games – but they have yet to face a real test in the tournament so far. France have also been in fine goal scoring form, coming off the back of a 3-1 win against Poland – both Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud have been in scintillating form.

France go into the game as favourites, but England have shown real moments of maturity and promise during the Qatar World Cup so far. But what to they need to do to get past one of their biggest tests under Southgate?

JJ Bull looks at how they can get the better of Didier Deschamps side.

  1. Can you imagine if England do manage to beat france which seems very unlikely but if they dod then got PORTAGAL or Morocco then Morocco beat them that would be the funniest ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 iceland Hungary spring to mind 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍

  2. The big mistake England can do is focus too much on Mbappe and how to stop him. We are talking about a French team who's attackers and midfield are all in form. Goals will come from elsewhere. The second mistake England can do is not shut down Mbappe. That man is on fire, and he doesnt have to sprint down the flanks to score goals. He will score them regardless. With that being said, England are the underdogs, not by much, but are.

  3. I could see mount starting over Henderson in that 4-3-3 just to press mbappe in those half spaces with a little more speed and energy. Also think rashford starts over Saka to provide pace and runs in behind their over extended left side

  4. I think Kyle Walker will be having an easier time with Mbappe than if they took ASM along with them.

ASM is way more unplayable than Mbappe.

  5. I like seeing JJ's face while he's drawing on the board but I think putting his face in the corner of the board instead of the board awkwardly in the middle of the screen is the way to go

  6. One prediction and one observation. Prediction: with all the focus on France's left, Dembele and Griesman are going to link up to do England on the counter at some point when Shaw pushes up. Observation: that half-space turtle power reference was a delight, JJ.

  7. Trouble is, Mbappé can very much score from the edge of the penalty area. Worldies too, he scored twice against Poland that way.
He managed to score against two defenders (blocking half of the goal area) and the goalkeeper.
Szczęsny is also a better goalkeeper than Pickford, so England are in real trouble if they opt for their usual plan to absorb pressure and then strike back on the counter-attack. They will ship more goals then they will be able to score if that is their game plan.

  8. Stop bumming this one up that one up and telling us how good they are less chat press interviews and get on with it if they win they England they won end of story ig they dont expert they were beaten by a real world class team instead of making excuses every five minutes
