Zaniolo, supposedly

If this is true and Zaniolo has provided some thoughts to Italian media, I really do not understand the intent of it. Not only is he loaned to an English club, but he is contractually bound to a Turkish club. Very strange, especially when competing for a place in the squad after such a disappointing spell.

  2. He wasn’t getting much time in Turkey when we got him, and he’s getting much less now – What makes him think a club like Roma would actually want him after all this?

  3. The club already told him they wouldn’t be buying him or extending the loan, he’s free to say what he wants. Not saying he’s perfect but I don’t really see the problem here.

  4. Not gonna go getting bothered about tabloid headline nonsense. If he wants back in Series A then good for him, I can’t say I’d be surprised and I wouldn’t blame him. Looking forward to seeing him doing enough in his remaining time with us to earn a move back there.

  5. He was very very hyped up as a teenager. Physically impressive, skilled, and with a bullish attitude. He was going to be the italian Rooney, but it all went to shit, he was considered a flop and ended up exiled to turkey.

The villa move was his chance to prove himself in a proper league and it didn’t work. Was worth a punt. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him doing well at a champions league team a few years from now, but realistically… nah. Good luck to him.

I think he’s got a high ceiling and I think he’ll end up a star in Serie A. Sort of player that all the fanbase dislike then in a few years time we get a load of posts like “Zaniolo just scored his 10th goal at the world cup, why did we let him go?”

He hasn’t been fantastic for us but he always puts the effort in when he comes on, he’s grabbed two important goals and he looks good on the ball when he gets into his stride. If his name was Nicholas Jones and he was from Bromsgrove and came through our youth system he’d be a fan favourite.

I don’t think we’ll sign him or should sign him, Buendia is a better player in the same position and we have Tielemans, McGinn, Ramsey and Rogers in the attacking midfield position too, but I wish him the best and hope he gets the move back to Roma.
