I really dont think players, at any level, need an attacking coach to tell them not to hit it straight at the keeper

Definitely, the first thing that needs to happen when you outshoot an opponent 37 to 1 on the road is online fans speculating about coaching changes. /s

So interestingly in every interview where the attacker mentions Kelly Smith there’s a few consistencies. First off it’s usually unprompted, there’s a couple that have been asked Russo for example since she was her hero but usually they (the player) bring it up. Secondly they’re effusive in their praise, now they’re not going to put her on blast obviously but unless directly asked if they had nothing good to say they wouldn’t bother bring her up (hence my first point). Lastly though every single interview has said what she has been helping them (and I’ve seen interviews with all of Russo, Stina and Viv. Some even have done multiple bringing her up) with isn’t shooting but their attacking positioning. Getting into areas where they can take a shot and for me these numbers back that up. Conversion needs to be looked at but I see loads of people saying she’s made our attack worse but if that’s what she’s helping them with I don’t think you can look at the skyrocketing numbers and say she’s not helped them find positions and angles to shoot from.
Also while writing this and the importance of positioning it made me think of Jonas’ praise of Beth Mead’s return from injury. When she setup Russo instead of shooting herself. He said something along the lines of [(and I’ll link here if I can find it after)](https://arseblog.news/2023/10/jonas-eidevall-reacts-to-2-1-victory-over-aston-villa/) knowing when to pass and not just shoot is key. That is what we’re lacking and honestly I think it’s a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. We’re lacking confidence in our shots & trying too hard which is a deadly (for our shot conversion %) combo.

That says more about the defence, 1 shot and 1 conceded.
If we’re making 37 shots and 13 on target with 3 goals scored, I’d say those are fairly good numbers. Finishing could have been a lot better, but we were making the opportunities.

That shots on target ~33% is actually a decent average.
Our crossing today was infinitely better than most game this season. Positives, but our finishing certainly needs to improve.

Well, the current one is on a one year contract…
