Many have wondered how good of a coach is Gregg Berhalter in comparison to former US Mens National Team coaches. He’s received his fair share of criticism, but he has also been rather successful. But while results are important, how one obtains those results is the big talking point. Gregg Berhalter may have the highest percentage of wins compared to other USMNT coaches, but that’s disregarding the context behind the number.

How do former players and assistance rate him as a manager? Ultimately the answer is simple. He’s a tactician who micromanages the game with limited flexibility. That’s not to say his decisions are bad, simply saying he’s stuck in his ways.

  1. What was one moment that you recall where you questioned Gregg's ability as a manager?

As mentioned in the show, for me it's the inability to adjust to the opponent. We played El Salvador like 4 times in the last 2 years and he's failed to adjust to Hugo Perez's high press, therefore struggling all 4 games.

  2. you dudes aint making no sense.

el salvador always gives usmnt trouble. we havent beat them at home in years.

disparaging el salvador soccer on paper or talking about little baby hamster turds isnt an argument against ggg.

yall just dont like ggg because he doesnt do what you want him to do.

his players love him and trust him. they are always prepared for every match.

yall need to just grab the pom poms and enjoy it.

    in ggg we trust.

  3. I can’t get past initial hiring decision by US Soccer. Absolutely no experience. However I am sure his brother had something to do with it. But then after several frustrating years with him in charge, I was hopeful we would get a new coach. Instead, we get GGG for a second cycle.
It’s the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results!!!

  4. If doing the bare minimum is seem as amazing, then Gregg is a good manager. But if you expect the manager of the most talented team we’ve ever had to get the most of them, then he’s not a good manager.

  5. Jimmy Conrad explained this to you. He said Berhalter's coaching is a product of global coaching trends, which you can blame Pep Guardiola for.

  6. Michele Giannone has an interview coming out with Yunus Musah where Musah raves about Berhalter. Berhalter is a bad coach in the sense that he thinks high-pressing is an offense, and he thinks you can choreograph passes in advance (patterns of play). Soccer is jazz.
