Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admitted his form for Manchester United has not been up to his usual standard. The midfielder was speaking ahead of Portugal’s friendly match against Sweden at the Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques on Thursday.

Fernandes has only scored four Premier League goals for the Old Trafford side this season, a large downgrade compared to his previous time at the club. In all he averages a goal in every three league games for Manchester United, but has struggled to make an impact this season.

Portugal qualified for Euro 2024 with ten wins in ten games.

They have been drawn in Group F, Portugal will face Czech Republic, Turkey and the winner of play-off path C (Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece or Kazakhstan) in the group stage of the European Championship.

  1. He is alright. Sometimes you get the feeling he's carrying the entire United team on his back. A man can only do that for so long before they break. I think his quality shines through when he's with the national team. Because he gets to do what he's good at – being a creative menace in that midfield. Whereas in United you feel like he always feels the need to tuck into every position because United is abysmal at the moment.

  2. If he stops playing out of position so often, delegates more as captain, and sticks to his role so we maintain formation, he'd be performing a lot better. He's stretching himself thin most games and getting burnt out.
