Arsenal defender Ben White has been left out of the England squad again, as the Three Lions prepare to face Brazil and Belgium. Gareth Southgate reveals it is the player’s decision, but says the door is open for him.

03:20 – Cole Palmer? You can see the quality he has – watching him for thee U21 we realised what an outstanding technical finisher he is
04:30 – Ivan Toney, and Watkins, room? Maybe maybe not, idk the answer to that! Depends on the profiles we need! Ivan is one of the contenders in that role
05:20 – Ben White? It’s absolutely the question you should ask – Ben didn’t want to be considered at this time – I have to respect that and leave the door open. There is no issue between us.
08:00 – Door open? I want that door wide open, he would be in that squad
08:30 – Joe Gomez? – firstly it’s great to see him playing regularly at Liverpool. We’ve always had great faith in Joe (short on weird noises?)
09:50 – Left back? I think we’ve got a few – in some positions we have a lot of depth, in others we have not much depth
10:50 – EFL not agreeing a deal? I don’t know the details – lots of players start in the EFL so it’s a great part of our football pyramid
11:40 – Maguire, and other injured players? Both are back into training so we just have to see how that goes during the week.

It's very unprofessional for Southgate to throw Ben White under the bus like this. He could have just said it was a question they could ask Ben himself, rather than disrespect his privacy and give the media a scoop, giving chapter and verse on the Edu phonecall. He knows full well why White is reluctant to play for England right now and its dishonest of him to say otherwise. If this is how he hangs a player out to dry, then White's decision to steer clear seems vindicated.
