London 2012 Olympics – Fencing Men’s Foil – Cassara vs Abouelkassem
At the London 2012 Olympic Games, Andrea Cassara (ITA) was by far the favorite candidate to win the men’s foil individual event. However, during the quarter-finals, there was a huge upset: Alaaeldin Abouelkassem (EGY) defeated Cassara by a score of 15-10. Abouelkassem became the first African athlete to win an Olympic medal in the history of fencing.
