It's moronic to make offsides calls when things are a whisker close. There definitely needs to be some sort of fudge factor like always giving the close calls to the offense rather than the defense. The reason for favoring the offense is that there are so few goals that calling back a legitimate one is a real shame. Definitely need some sort of a too close to call going to the offense like in baseball tie going to the runner.
