  1. It possibly is perception rather that reality in regards to people changing their view point every game, but I personally think that it's an emotional game and there are a base level of fans from any club who love the team/manager when we win and hate the team/manager when we lose. Maybe it is the Aftv effect where you see praise one week and rants next week from the same People, it seems to be age dependent also – younger fans more changeable, older fans more set in their ways. Either way I do think it exists and don't think it will be going away any time soon

  2. As a matter of fact ,we would not be able to sign a certain class of players irrespective of UCL. But we signed Lokanga and Tomiyasu great players becoz we were not in CL…so not qualifying would not have any material effect on our summer recruitment activity.

  3. Our squad is woefully short of quality players and we have no gamechangers to bring on from the bend, so why the heck can't Arteta give some of the youth players a go. Let Omari or Biereth or Flores take the field even if for 10-15mins.

Just feels like Spurs have a much better squad and depth, plus Conte will just about ensure top-4.

  4. I think you are correct about flip flopping, it's largely an on line perception thing. The reason why it happens though is it seems everyone has to be in one camp or another, and can't have a view that maybe is less decided as it's perceived as sitting on the fence (which is deemed a negative).
Take the Tavares situation, i have heard people say he will never play for Arsenal again, it may be true but we have such limited evidence that it's based purely on the odd interview and the limited recent pitch time. Maybe the lad is nervous and didn't want to play at the weekend, maybe he is carrying a knock, maybe he isn't good enough, maybe he is poor in training, so many maybes but the fanbase seems compelled to dismiss him or blame a manager when the reality could be something completely different, we don't know but people are compelled to give a definitive opinion and not fence sit.
I think there again is a perception of flip flopping, with which Tom is a great example, his underlying opinion seems to be back the team and by default the manager, but a couple of bad results, his and any fans natural reaction is to question the odd decision and performance the underlying opinion wont have changed if say out of 100 decisions there have been 70 good 30 bad but in the moment of questioning people can perceive things as a fundamental change of opinion, everything has nuance and context but it's in short supply on line it seems. You are 8th back to back so you are rubbish, you are 2nd it's great, well if you look at Man u who did finish 2nd and added to their squad, are in a mess, i personally think the Arsenal squad is getting better, but still has work needed as Arteta and Edu have admitted, unlike Wenger who forever insisted we didn't need a cb or dominant midfielder.
I wish people were a little slower to judge situations, without the full evidence, too many players are rubbish or brilliant after a few games, you really need 2 seasons to have a long term view, a player can have a great or poor game but to define them as a player is a little rash.
On line the problems are greatest as it's a recorded opinion and those giving content do have some influence (aftv call themselves influencers) because much of society are programmed to believe what they see on a screen or read in a newspaper, a perfect example is the Pepe sale story, someone misread the opinion piece and the story spread like wild fire and became a truth even though it wasn't. I guarantee if a publication had a picture of Tavares and Arteta talking and it could be titled Arteta consoles young player, but sees big plans for the future, or it could be Arteta and Tavares bust up, club in crisis talks, same picture different interpretations.
I wish many people would think a little more for themselves and look at different sources of information before they form their own opinion, and be open minded and respectful to others even if there conclusions differ, because ultimately as fans most our opinions are based on barely 50% knowledge because players, managers and clubs won't do candid interviews.

  5. Emery was shafted by the board, not financially backed, never got the players he wanted and so gave up at the end. I believe he would have had success if given the players he asked for.

  6. If this were a trial, too many people would be acquitting or convicting before much of the evidence was presented. I like differences of opinions, but I cannot stand anyone who makes themselves the self-appointed spokesperson for the 'true fan' and demonises anyone who disagrees with them. It's our club, not just mine, yours or theirs.

  7. Good on ya for sticking up for Harry. He's a gent and is insightful, fair and his love for the club is unquestionable. He's also very generous with haters, perhaps more so than he should be, but he's a class act and that's the way he's chosen to conduct himself. I really have no idea why and how people get off on abusing other fans.

I limit my Arsenal content to you, Harry, Arsecast, Latte firm, and ArsenalVision. Other channels just seem like they encourage fans' worst tendencies and I want no part of that. I want to enjoy being a fan and share that with others through the good times and the bad. I don't want it to be a miserable experience, not because of what's happening on the pitch but because of what's being said on social media. Stopped listening to some channels because I couldn't deal with the endless stream of negativity and meanness.

  8. We should be getting our good prospects back from loans, replace Pepe, Elneny, Nketiah, Lacazette, Xakha with other good squad players who can push for competition, and slowly build a competitive team that can battle on multiple fronts; I'd love to see Balogun, R. Nelson, Azeez, Norton-Cuffy and others to be included in that 25 player squad next season.

  9. I've supported Arsenal since the 80s and I would say there has always been an element of our support that are excessively negative. It is something I used to find quite amusing and would tend to shrug it off pretty easily when friends who supported other teams would try on some banter. The meteoric rise of social media has certainly put a microscope on that old aspect, which if you have a sense of humour is just fine. However, it has also directly contributed to a significant and disturbing lack of basic respect being shown during online interactions which now appears to be expanding into the "real world". These days we tend to see this kind of disrespect and contempt on a daily basis and somewhat worryingly it seems to be on the increase. It is beginning to permeate into so many different aspects of our lives now that I barely use social media any more and feel a lot better for it. I actually enjoy challenging conversations and debates with people, when they are conducted the right way and with all due respect. The kinda debates you tend to see online are just not for me, there are far easier and more pleasurable ways to your kill brain cells than that!

  10. I hope Spurs get Spursey before the end of this season. Unfortunate that we have to, at this point, rely on our competitors dropping points in order to sneak into top 6. So looking forward to adding quality this summer 🤞🤞🤞.

  11. This “flip flop” thing is beyond me Tom. Of course I’m 70, and my reaction would be to laugh at the label, because as you say, evidence can change one’s mind. Period!

  12. We Arsenal are a very useless club. We claim Liverpool and City are miles away from us that is why we cannot beat them, ironically clubs that we are miiles ahead of are beating us easily. So part of our problem is mentality of both fans and players. When it matters most we seems to get pressured and blow it up.

  13. Arsenal and Covid has ruined my week, roll on the weekend! Thanks for yet another good show, Tom you are going to be so, so very busy this summer with your Daily Transfer news!
